People underestimate how much work being in a fraternity at a school like OU actually is. It's not all beer and ladies and stupid shit, like the stereotypes that many would like to believe. Honestly, I sort of wish fraternities actually DID fit the stereotypes they're given, but they're more than that.

ROTC takes a lot more time than I thought it would too. It averages out to about 5 or more hours a week for only 1 credit hour. My junior year and senior years that will become 8 hours a week for about 3 credit hours, many of which will not count towards electives with the college of Aviation. But then there's the cool things like this summer when for a week I get to learn hand-to-hand combat training and close quarters weapons training.

I like college though, it really allows me to live on my own, take care of my own responsibilities, and moreover gives me complete freedom to do as I please. It shows me how highschool should be run,  you don't need attendance policies, dress codes, and curfews for students to be successful. They can make those decisions themselves. If it works for them, than so be it; it doesn't make sense to force somebody to attend class if they know the material well enough to pull a good grade. And if they don't then they'll have to accept the consequences of their actions (or lack thereof). I don't know why we treat young people like they are helpless and misguided on their own. Sometimes the most successful people are those who were forced to make a living on their own and started with nothing, while sheltered kids many times lack the experience and responsibilites required in the real world.
