Phenomenon 2011 Review

This was a good solid convention. As always, I am so appreciative to the organisers for creating this space. Everything went smoothly, might be in part that only one person beat us into registering. I might suggest to the organisers that in future the first team to sign in gets a better placement of the Triptychs. We had one in the first session ( Read more... )

On potential flashbacks, absolutely everything established in the history could have been fodder for flashbacks. They all would have been interesting. And we ran early, so there was time to look in more detail at several of these.

And in my session, Brenelis came up with a device that controlled Rohan. Where did it come from? Did Tenerim build it? Did it require a piece of Rohan while he was still human? In which case, how did Brenelis acquire that piece?

Hmm..

The war, and all that, was something you missed in the History page actually. We took to reading that out in later sessions, and the game was much improved for it.

Those flashback ideas are cool. Some we did see in other sessions, some not. One issue is that we wanted everyone focused on the same conversation all the way through (and I see your comments about that in your review of another game ^^). Also, for the game to have meaningful content we wanted each flashback to have something key and unknown to discover. Whether that's useful or not I'm not sure at present, but it did limit our choices somewhat.

With my expereince with flashbacks, they will add character flavour and perspective, even if no other significant key points come from it. However, by their very nature, they always bring up something interesting. How do you prioritise which flashback to do next? I think that would need to come down to GM intution depending on where the story needs to flow to next, and which characters need to be involved more.
