Those of you who know me well know that Christmas is by far my favourite holiday, and time of year generally, and because of this, Toy Mountain is a cause that is very near and dear to my heart. It may be, strictly speaking, less important than some other charities, because it's kind of a luxury (Let's face it; nobody needs a new toy), but it's important to me, because it helps bring some of that Christmas magic to kids for whom it might otherwise be just another cold winter day.
This story (if you scroll down past the police stuff) talks about how a lot of the families who would normally get stuff for their kids from Toy Mountain are having a hard time getting to the central pick-up location near Preston and Somerset, as a result of the bus strike. It also mentions a woman who apparently took it upon herself to drive to the place and pick up some toys to take to a school in Bayshore that might be easier for families in that end of town to get to. I think that's pretty awesome, and if I had a car, I would so be doing the same. Unfortunately, I don't, so I'm putting it to you.
So if any of you in Ottawa with cars are bored this week, or would just like to help out, this is one way you could.
Just wanted to put it out there.
