Pretty much all of my creation nowadays comes in the form of lyrics. And I most often find myself inspired by movies and books, sometimes its a phrase that stands out sometimes it's a theme sometimes a character. But for whatever reason I tend to feel strong connections with whatever i'm watching or reading. Man Down came from The Great Raid, Dragons of Earth originally was inspired by X, forever ago I wrote a couple that were inspired by Guardians of the Flame, and i've been working on one inspired by George RR Martin.
I would say that my second biggest inspiration is nature. I wrote Two Worlds while I was flying to LA, looking down at the clouds and the words just formed themselves, I wrote a different song that is yet unused sitting on the edge of Cathedral Ledge in North Conway, just lost looking out over the forest and echo lake. And another one for which the song is in the works based on Mother Nature and how the earth seems to be rebelling against us (Katrina, the Tsunami, Global Warming)
I guess lastly would be personal experience, though I kind of find it tougher to write about personal stuff, maybe cause I'm the kind of person who doesn't really share his feelings freely. I dunno, I often wish i had artistic talent for drawing or painting, cause I feel like I have ideas that want to get out, but alas, I'm cursed with clumsy penmenship.
