[Midair, looking down at the beach.]So many volunteers for this little...excursion. Perhaps as a group we should narrow down the numbers. I personally wouldn't want to be represented by most of you, and some are less than intelligent choices. While I'm not familiar with how it is possible, some of you are walking around without a heartbeat. ( Read more... )

Wings? Interesting, so you are a being that is not human.

The difference in biology between the various people here worries me; it will complicate deciding who would be the best to represent our group. Your idea has merit, and I must say that I agree with you.

Definitely not, there is no human blood in my family. [Said proudly.]

I had assumed the majority of the population to be beorc, but that idea seems less likely as time goes on. Perhaps, however, we should pick a human as this downed vessel appear to be of beorc make.
[He will not use the word 'human'. He sees it as an insult, and will be using 'beorc' instead.]

[He looks slightly puzzled at that pride, but shrugs it off mentally.]

I am not sure what you mean by "beorc;" that is not a term I am familiar with.

You most likely use the term 'human'. I prefer not to.

I don't suppose you have any ideas for convincing everyone else that we should pick the representative?

Is there some difference in connotation between the two, or is it just because our concepts of 'human' are not the same?

With people already volunteering, it is an issue bound to come up. The best way would be to propose it over the sphere network and hope everyone will listen. At the moment, we are rather lawless.

Our concepts are no doubt the same, it is simply considered an insult among my people. Only a small minded laguz would refer to beorc by human.

[A sigh] I was afraid that this network were the only way. I doubt enough of the volunteers will pay attention to an announcement.

You should not expect others to understand that cultural difference and take offense. I am assuming a 'laguz' is what you would refer to your race as?

It is the responsibility of those willing to volunteer to pay attention to any announcements regarding that development. If they do not, they should be exempt from consideration.

Yes, we are the laguz. I still find it distasteful to use the word, though I don't begrudge your use of it. Most beorc call themselves 'human', I have no problem with that. I will not use a word that I consider to be an insult on anyone who I do not see worth an insult.

I agree, but the very fact that they would ignore us would make it hard to exempt them. Is there, perhaps, someone held in high esteem, who, should they discuss the matter, receive more of a response?

I will keep that in mind during future discussions with you.

There is no one in that sort of position that I am aware of. The residents seem to have broken off into groups, and perhaps each group has a figure they recognize as their social leader, but there isn't a person possessing the clout you desire.
