I try to change the way I am right now
“What is this I heard that you’re gay?” asked Junnosuke as he came barging in Kazuya’s hospital room.
“Bisexual,” Kazuya corrected although he knew there wasn’t much difference. “And next time, please learn how to knock. You’re giving me a headache.”
When he dropped the bomb, he told himself that no one would find out about this lie he made up. No one but the other party involved, Heechul.
“Man, I don’t know what has gotten into you but are you for real?”
He sighed and closed his eyes, faking sleep. Junnosuke would forever be hopeless and clueless.
To answer his friend’s question, he has no idea what has gotten into him. His mother has taken it lightly, too lightly that it scared him. Jin’s reaction was the opposite though. The guy stormed out of the room when their mom hugged him and told him she’ll always be there for him no matter what. Was it jealousy? Whatever it is, someone should tell him he so can do something and be done with it. He couldn’t live the rest of his life with his brother hating him.
For several occasions, he has thought of possible reasons why Jin doesn’t like him but he ends up with the same reason over and over, Jin simply doesn’t like him at all.
-
He realized that he did fall asleep when he woke up a few hours later with the familiar doe-eyed foreigner staring at him. “Heechul-san?”
“All that honorifics are confusing me so please just Heechul is absolutely fine.”
“Heechul,” Kazuya corrected himself, the name still tasting so foreign. “How did you know I was here?”
“Good question. There’s this guy who cornered me during lunch saying how much of a bastard I am leaving my boyfriend to rot in the hospital. I was like, I don’t know what the crap he’s talking about so I was very much relieved when someone came along and dragged me away from that crazy dude. It was Junno, just so you know, and he told me to pay you a visit here after school. Do you happen to know who that lunatic is? He has this long hair with soft curls at the end. And I think you owe me an explanation, boyfriend.”
Kazuya laughed at Heechul’s animated story. Seriously, this guy is something. “I’m sorry. That guy might be Jin, he’s my brother. And I have no idea why he’s gone insane but I do owe you an explanation.”
“Okay, I’m all ears.”
“I kind of have this not-so-nice relationship with my brother. He made up a total lie which he thought would make me look stupid in front of our mom so I backed it up. Our parents think I’m gay which I really am not so I told my mom I’m bisexual-“
“Same difference.”
“I know. Anyway, Jin saw us hanging out yesterday so he said I have this girly-looking boyfriend. Please don’t get offended, he’s naturally rude like that. So what I’m trying to say is that I need you to be my pretend boyfriend. Please? I won’t rape you or something. Just…just until this whole thing with my brother is straightened out or just until you go back to Korea.”
Heechul kept silent and Kazuya felt his heart thumping rapidly. “Okay. I’ll do it because you’re my friend and I think we need to teach that brother of yours some manners.”
Kazuya was ecstatic that Heechul didn’t push him off the bed and ran away from him. It’s not everyday when you ask a friend of the same sex to be your boyfriend and he agrees. He wondered, “Why? Are you, by any chance, g-gay?”
“My man, I have a Chinese dude waiting for me back home. What do you think?”
“Oh,”
“Oh indeed. So, where did we meet? When’s our monthsary? Did you fall for my charms or did I fall for yours?” the Japanese man stared, dumbfounded. “What? We need a foolproof story if you want to win this game with your curly brother.”
Kazuya stared more. Oh.
-
“So it’s true, huh?”
It’s only been a few hours since he was released in the hospital, a few minutes since he arrived back home and a few seconds since he plopped down his bed to take a good rest when his brother came in his room like he owned it. “What do you want?” If anything, Kazuya should be surprised that Jin is actually talking to him but he’s too tired to take note of that. He was annoyed alright.
“Here I thought I had a fat chance of making mom kick you out of the house. Guess I was wrong.”
“Why are you even talking to me? Get out.”
“Getting cranky now, aren’t we? And since when did you get that rude, brother?”
“Shut up, Jin. I’m tired of your immaturity. Grow up and stop acting like a fucking child.”
Jin doesn’t know if he should get furious with Kazuya trying to be a know-it-all or with the way he was saying the words nonchalantly. “Not because you have a boyfriend doesn’t mean you can talk to me like that you slut.”
“What does that even have to do with having a boyfriend?” Kazuya chuckled, trying to get on Jin’s nerves. He’s pretty much successful. Well, almost. “At least I have someone who loves me dearly, other than our parents, of course.”
A fist slammed on his study table and he didn’t even flinch. This was his first real conversation with Jin and he’s enjoying it. He didn’t know pissing the other off could be this fun. If he knew that Jin wasn’t all that, he would’ve stopped acting like a scared pussy and confronted him a long time ago.
“Shut up your orphan!”
Kazuya found himself pushing Jin up against the wall with one hand, the other one balled in a fist. “I’ve been patient with you for ten years, brother. You piss me off again and it’s definitely on.” and he walked away.
In all honesty, he didn’t know where he found the confidence to go up against that bratty brother of his. Maybe it was because he found a support pole in the form of Heechul. He might’ve met the guy just a few days back but the support he’s given him throughout this whole ordeal with Jin is something he needs. As much as he hates to admit it, Junnosuke is never really a big help because, well, that guy is more immature than Jin, but Kazuya loves him still.
-
“Hold my hand.”
“What?”
“I said, hold my hand. If we’re gonna be a couple, then we should do things right.” Heechul sighed and took the liberty to lace his fingers with Kazuya’s. “Oh, just to let you know, curly boy is staring at us and don’t you dare look up and stare back at him.”
Of course walking in the hallway hand-in-hand would attract attention from nosy students, Kazuya should’ve known. But he was relatively new to this relationship and he still was awkward. “Heechul, I don’t think we should-“
“Are you not okay with skinship?” the Korean asked, chuckling lightly.
He frowned. “Skinship?”
“Yes, skinship. You know, body contact, closeness, intimacy of some sort. You really don’t know what that is?” when Kazuya shook his head, Heechul sighed. “And here I thought you Japanese people used that word first. Oh well.”
Unlike what Heechul said, it wasn’t really mistake for him to look up. He met eyes with his brother who was having a pretty good time throwing daggers at him. He could only smirk because he looked ridiculously pathetic.
Life was good.
