Another gorgeous day that I greeted with a cat on my hip and someone spooning me. How nice.
Work is going well, got everything read (only an hour and a half!), I leave at one to hopefully watch some Bob Ross followed almost immediately by a nap in our increasingly comfortable apartment. Yeah, life is good. Maybe I'll cook something! I'm out of money and it's a nice day, so cooking is feasible. Well, if I want to eat at all today, it's a necessity. What do you want, Reagan? (not Melissa chicken, it has to marinate)
I read this story in the Peoria Journal Star today about a 27 year old guy who has been busted for drugs three times-this time for meth-and he will be serving a mandatory life sentence without parole. Mandatory life without parole. He made meth, taught others, and did it around his 2 year old, but the judge said that it was his two previous drug charges that forced him to give the life without parole sentence because of "federal sentencing guidelines". Now, he got busted in 2004 and will be officially sentenced in December. For drugs. My friend was murdered three years ago along with the rest of her family, and her killer hasn't even gone to trial yet. I guess we can see how much the justice system cares about murder. Where are the "federal sentencing guidelines" for that shit?! Not to go all Big Lebowski-I didn't watch my friends die, face down in the mud in Vietnam...it just upsets me. It really doesn't make sense to me. For drugs. Not that I agree with meth, it is incredibly dangerous to make/use, but there are certainly worse things out there that need harsher sentences and swifter trials. Yet another reason why I want to move to Canada or some other equally neutral country. Switzerland? Chocolate, cheese, arian humans, bank accounts, what more could I want? I could teach music theory in Switzerland!
