NIN/JA Skillz

I know I haven't posted part II of my Coachella trip but I wanted to put up a few pics and talk about my experience at the NINJA show on Saturday first.

For a lot of you young pups you might wanna sit down and listen to Uncle Brian for a sec. See, back in the roarin' mid to late 90s there was a full blown explosion of all things "alternative". See ( Read more... )

I remember when my old bff Aaron went to the first Lollapalooza and introduced me to Jane's Addiction and NIN. I got 'Nothing's Shocking" from a Columbia House mailorder CD thing (which I think now, based on that cover, is unheard of) and when he played NIN 'Pretty Hate Machine' that pretty much clinched it for me. I am so going to bust out Downward Spiral and do the as well. It remains just about my fav NIN album apart from Pretty Hate Machine. Then again, I feel like I've been a NIN tourist for a few years now. Just plucking up the singles. Not to mention my gripe about Trent's song writing at times... where he takes a killer phrase and says it over and over and over (hand that feeds, perfect drug, etc). Instead of "every day is exactly the same" I started singing "every song is exactly the same".

But yeah, then I see him play live like on Saturday and I pretty much have to chuck that critique out the f'ing door. The man makes insanely good music. End of story.

I missed that Lolla... matter of fact the only ones I went to were '91 and then '94 (Smashing Pumpkins and Beastie Boys with a little snotty punk band named Green Day opening).

And The Pixies live are truly fantastic... if you can catch NIN before they sunset I would HIGHLY recommend it.
