GH3 Stumbling Out of the Gate
Last 24 hours have been pretty blurry. Worn out from my trip and trying to get back into work mode. Anyhow, picked up GH3 yesterday and played it a little. Took a while to get used to the Wii graphics but now it seems like old hat. I created a network account called Beardumb for the Wii but I did it before I realized the whammy bar on my guitar wasn't working (at all). I wanted to play so I went ahead and played without the bar. This worked fine 'til I went head to head against Slash and he hit me with a whammy smack that of course I couldn't get past without a bar. So I had to return the game/guitar.
When I returned it the gal at the counter said she had the same problem with hers. Aparently if you have the bar pressed down when you put the Wii-mote in the guitar you can freeze out the whammy bar. Nice! I'm wondering if this huge flaw is the reason they aren't selling Wiitars by themselves. Yup, you can only get one with the game - so no two player at my pad for now. Anyhow, it doesn't look like you can play cross network so that sorta sucks. Maybe it'll change down the road.
This is where it gets complicated. My online beardumb account was linked to my Wii beardumb account which I erased when I tried to relink it. Anyhow, the network is running really slow so I just made a new account called Atari Christmas on my Wii network and then linked it to my Beardumb account. Well, nothing seems to be updating because my scores etc haven't changed since where I left 'em earlier today before I ran into all these troubles.
There's a posted notice on the website that they're having a lot of traffic (big surprise) so I'm just gonna wait for the dust to settle. I will say that playing random people from the net has been fun and I haven't lost yet :-)
What do I think of the game? The graphics are just okay but the Wii guitar is excellent and the games is so much more forgiving than previous versions. I can hammer on/off with much less drama now. I still can't strum up and down so some of the songs on expert/hard are gonna be outside of my ability to get 5 stars on.
If you're on the Wii version let me know. So far I'm the only one I know of. Everyone else has Xbox.
Oh yeah, songs like Sabotage, Suck My Kiss, and Reptilia aren't playable in career but they are in online play? What's up with that? Maybe I just need to play more and unlock them. I've already played against characters I've never seen in vs. play - even after unlocking slash, tom morrello, the robot, and the devil guy.
