[Fav Fridays] Dig!

I can remember seeing the trailer for Dig! back in the day at the local art house cinema. I forgot about it as I sometimes do but was happy to catch it on IFC a year or so ago. I Tivo'd it and I gotta say - I probably watched it five or six times over the course of a few weeks. There's something about the reality-style, docudrama with people/characters that are larger than life. Huge personalities, pronounced view points, fearless flaws... Totally infectious.

I watched the movie because I'm a big Dandy Warhols fan (thank you fakeplasticbear) and continue to be. The movie made me a Brian Jonestown Massacre fan as well (get the retrospective Tepid Peppermint Wonderland today!). But to the doc, it follows the careers of two bands starting at ground zero with the potential for stardom. You have Anton and the BJM and Courtney with the Dandy's. Homespun god-complex vs. do-what-it-takes-to-make-the-bucks wannabe's. And we get to watch it all go down. One band rises and the other falls but at what cost? Sanity? Validity? Soul Ownership?

It's all secondary to me. What I truly enjoyed was watching how badly it is that Courtney wants to be Anton.

Man, i totally thought-vomited that all out but I've gotta get back to being a report monkey so you'll have to roll with what I've given you. Netflix this one today! Even if you aren't a fan of the music or the bands you'll enjoy this flick I promise.

Movie Trailer

It's available on 2 Disc DVD with some follow up extras that are mighty tasty.
