The world seriously hates teachers. Stop and think about this for a second. We are scorned in work and in pay, and that is only for the teachers who can actually find a job. Getting a job, even subbing, sucks--it is hard and costs alot of extra money (for example, applying to sub in Ann Arbor will cost me $100). I wonder, sometimes, why we choose this mostly thankless profession. Then I remember the students in my fifth hour who started crying when I told them I was leaving, or I look at the sign hanging from my door (made by the seniors in one of the bands I student taught). It's a damn good thing it is so rewarding spiritually, because right now I really need that internal boost.
In better news, I applied for several part time jobs yesterday. The most fun application was for Wizzywig, the anime/import store in town. My three favorite questions (possibly ever) for a job application:
"Please describe your acquaintance/knowledge of the internet"
"Please describe your skills with and knowledge of PC/IBM computing systems"
"Please describe any anime, JPop/JRock, or video games that you have intimate knowledge of"
Needless to say, those three questions took me longer than the entire rest of the application.
