The 5th Day of April in the Year of Our Lord, 2008 (hereafter referred to as the longest day in the world), began with a trip to the airport, continued with a 100-hour plane flight, landing in LA 4 hours before we left Melbourne, a drive (Silver Chevy Malibu) from LAX to Newport and a trip to Bamboozled Left, an outdoor all day punk show a-la Warped Tour. Following a synchronized power-nap, we went to the show and stood outside in the rapidly cooling afternoon, and watched several average performances. Reel Big Fish alone put on a short show that made the day worth it. Jimmy Eat World was pretty good, and Face to Face was nice to see after havig missed them at two previous shows I was actually at. Most of the bands were average at best, and apparently no one does a song live anymore without stopping singing to get the audience to sing for them. Maybe we should sell tickets to the fucking bands if they want to see us sing so badly. Number of burritos consumed by group in longest day in the world: 5.
th - We leave Newport early with the intention of catching up with an Australian friend that works on a cruise ship now. We were meant to go down to San Diego, but ran out of time that our schedules lined up, so we went to Laguna, Venice, random cities around LA. Venice was basically a big outdoor market with crazy people and an outdoor gym. Oh and a cloud of weed hits you in the face about every 150 feet. We did, however, get to see a guy in a makeshift daiper, on a chair, holding snakes, yelling at the LAPD. We tried In-and-Out Burger for lunch, and bought a shitload of Snapple. Hit up Denny's for the first time in 4 years. Fuckin Aye. Number of old coots overheard blaming the problems of America on "DIVORCE" (apperently the family unit depends on women being in the kitchen, etc., etc.): 1.
th - This was the first thing in America I was totally looking forward to doing, that had nothing to do with a fast food place or diner that I havent had access to in years. That's right. Six Flags! Everything was pretty sweet. Theres a "flying" ride we got to go on that was pretty awesome. most of the roller coasters were quite awesome, but I wasn't really feeling the ride and reride, so we left after we'd hit up each of the big coastgers once. Night time brought on Olive Garden, where the food was grat and the wine was free. Thanks, Eric, our server! Number of Sweet n' Sour sauce packets received for one (10 pc.) order of Wendy's Nuggets: 4.
th - Breakfast at IHOP, road trip from LA to Vegas. Long ass drive, but the scenry through there is surprisingly great, considering it's essentially desert. Plenty of mountains, which is cool, if you grew up in Mississippi, flattest state in the union! The resort we're staying at these first couple of nights in Vegas is great, but the front desk service left very much to be desired. The downside to the drive being the brown haziness from horizon to horizon for almost all the journey. Number of emergency vehicles with lights flashing sighted at Taco Bell: 3.
th - Not a lot happening this day. We spent the majority of the morning recovering from a card playing wine drinking extraveganza on the previous night. Then several hours hanging out at the wicked pool. Sunny as you would expect in the desert, but a pretty chilly and constant wind kept the day from being fantastic. Probably drove me inside before I got well and truely burned. Spent the better part of the day chilling. Number of random costume changes by the pool-girls: 1.
