if you apply as an assistant to a professor, and that prof is loaded with grants, for sure some of that cash will filter down to you. you can also apply as a teaching assistant or lab instructor to help pay for your tuition.

sometimes, the school also pays for some or all of your tuition (kung mataas-taas grades mo hehe). my friend taking Ph.D. in Georgetown is on full scholarship just because Ph.D. student siya (straight Ph.D. from BS MBB).

alternatively, you can also ask the school itself if it has any awards or grants or scholarships for 1. minorities, 2. intl students with good standing and/or 3. research students.

there are also some small-time grants given by different research bodies, like one that I'm looking at is the Hall Award given to students taking up life sciences. You just have to submit an essay to the head of that group talking about your research work, why you deserve the award etc etc.

check out thomson-peterson's. (www.petersons.com i think) for schools, possible scholarships, tips about being an intl stude, etc. it's really helpful.
