I touched a violin Friday night. Been to a friend's place and found out he had a dusty old violin hidden somewhere. I had him bring it. I held it between my chin and shoulder, for this is how I see them violinists do. I'd never touched a violin before that. My friend had to comment on how I was holding the bow thing. He demonstrated a note. I didn't know the contact is so subtle. I held the bow, pressed it very subtly against the rightmost string and pulled it down very slowly, letting go of a single, invariable long pitchy sound.
