Long Time, No rants
I've been meaning to update for a while, but couldn't think of what to write. Fortunately loads of crazy things have been in the news lately and people have been voicing their own dumb opinions. So he's mine to add to the mix.
Recently we had Prince Willy come visit to open the New Supreme court. Orignally intended as a symbol of nationhood and independence from Britain {by replacing the Privy Council} The current government decides to have a member of the Monarchy come open it. Hilirous! This got all the Republicans up in arms. Republicans are funny because they want to replace a benign, largely irrelvent and historically established Head of state because they are 'foreign'. The punchline is {If you haden already guessed it} is that they are implying that the concept of a independant sovereign nation state _IS_ relevant. Perhaps they haven't been keeping up with current events but such concepts have been increasingly made redundant for the last hundred years. And as the 21st Century progresses the Republican movement in NZ will look more and more like a dinosaur from a bygone era. Every other country will be {and have been} reaching out to for regional/cultural/economic blocs and they will be there talking about 'Nationhood' like a bunch of crazy reactionaries.
American Opitics manufacturer 'Trijicon' likes to put biblical references in their serial numbers. Apparently the manufacturers of the best gunsights in the world are also fundamentalist Christians! Apparently nobody noticed {which could be possible since from what I can tell the NZDF is quite hostile to Christianty}. But I think what is more likely is that it would be a mission to have them removed and so long as nobody told the blabber mouths at the media it wouldn't compromise mission success by offended Muslim sensitvity. But Now someone has talked and its all over the news, not just ours but also US & UK news too. Already there are Muslims demanding the sights be removed from theatre {Because their job will be much easier without them!}
Speaking of Idiot reporters, the NZ Herald, Stuff and others have though it would be a good idea to splash Pictures of active SAS operators alover the internet. Its not yet know weather these treasonous bastards will be charges for compromising OPSEC and endangering the lives of soldiers and their families. But Apparently John Key is "Very Disappointed'. I only hope that this doesn't set some kinda of escalating precendent, Give them an inch and they take a mile. Just ask the British. They had details on the timings, intention and direction of a major attack revealed to teh Argentines in 82 by the traitor media resulting in a much higher casualty toll than they had hoped.
As a final point. Apparently Labour & the Greens thought the NZSAS deployment would win the war in a few weeks! I know they are good soldiers but FFS! Its a big country and a wicked problem. To say that NZSAS is not part of the solution just because there was an attack in Kabul is ridiculous for so many reasons. It ignores the fact that there are things all over the country that affect the outcome of the mission, it doesn't explain what might have been diffent if NZSAS hadn't been deployed and, whilst Phil Goff is right to point out that Corruption is a bigger problem and that the mission will not be ultimately successful until teh Afghans can look after themselves, this ignores the fact that all these efforts are built on a fundation of security. Without security efforts are economic reconstruction, political discourse and training of indigeonous personnel is made a hundred times harder. Therefore, troops have to be assigned to Security tasks. In this instance the NZSAS have been alloted the task of assisting and training Afghan Sercurtiy personnel in and around Kabul.
