To see someone take such pride in their craft is always respectable. As a writer, I strive to better myself, and I wish I had 1/10th the verve and dedication that Chris Benoit had for his art form. When I first heard about this, I envisioned several scenarios wherein Benoit would not be responsible, so that his image could be preserved. A burglary gone wrong, a home invasion, a stalker, something so that it didn't mean that Benoit was the murderer. It's funny how we don't want to hear that about someone we respect, or how the image masks the reality. Not that wrestling's exactly a nurturing or stable environment. Jericho may have been the smartest wrestler alive, especially since he left the business. And if Benoit was roid-raged, that certainly wouldn't help.

But like you, I just find myself shaking my head and wondering what the hell went so wrong.

steroids, plus being treated like a god, plus uncompromising perfectionism which perhaps cannot accomodate the concept of a failed marriage, or the concept of losing custody... dunno

what's really scary is how premeditated it sounds

it does, sadly, add more fuel to my theory that excessively "private" people generally have something to hide :(
