{┼}After a year of his human and non-human compatriots dangled and taken from him like fleshy scraps, expected to beg for their return. . . somehow the violent enmity he had displayed in the previous disappearances, just could not muster itself. They would not be given the satisfaction ( Read more... )

[Walter approached from behind, his lips twisted somewhere between being fed up and frowning.

He didn't speak to Alucard straight away, he merely walked past him, pulled open the curtains and turned back to face him, his arms behind his back and stood up straight.]

What's gone is gone, so I'll be having none of this moping. You're a big vampire now, Alucard, act like one.

[A visible distaste pursed the vampire's ashen lips, pupils dilating at the light and wrenching away. The retainer was worse than a father berating an over-hanged son at 6am after an all night's kegger.]

Hnn. . . There is nothing to mourn but what was a temporary haven in this vapid maelstrom.

[It's his party and he can cry if he wants to. 8( ]

[He shakes his head and paces around the room, moving anything that seemed out of place or wiping settled dust away with a small old rag.]

Would you not prefer a better life for your Master, Alucard?

[No. No he can't.]

[So like him. To continue onwards with his duties no matter if the Master was in our out. Walter's fealty could dare say surpass his own, even with it not being written into his blood.]

I could desire nothing more than to rid her from this cesspit.

[Drawing a fingertip idly in the dust, he formed a star, like the sigils on his hands, before the retainer so meticulously rid of it.]

And yet she goes too a war filled with my servants. . . without their master.

[Seras, who drank of his blood, would be at his master's side, yet his trust in his fledgling's prowess only went so far.]

[He dusted off the little star with a grumble.]
I wish you'd not do that.

We, for the time being, can make do with our previous master, Alucard.

[And then he stops.]

Sir Arthur may not be the epitome of a great leader, but his priorities are in the right place when they need to be- you should already know this- so I don't see why you're being over-dramatic at the return of two people...

[His lips form a little smirk]

Or is the dreaded Alucard, king of the vampires, become- dare I say- lonely?

[As rusty as he was in his old age, Walter hit the mark. There was a dark space inside the hollow confines of the vampire's chest, set aside for the memories of the humans who touched him like scalding silvers and branded themselves neath his solitaire demeanor. Yet he denied it all the same.]

Lonely, Walter?

[Turning towards him with an impish smile of his own, he leaned down to eye-level with his beloved cohort.]

How can I reside myself to that, when my doting consort still remains?

[This was a creature who thrived on distractions from the Second Death: Ennui. So long as those who drew his attention remained, so would his own accord remain.]
