crashes

Eighteen years ago, Northwest Airlines Flight 255 stalled and crashed during takeoff, killing all but one of the 155 souls on board. I was 14 and lived only a few miles east of Detroit Metro Airport at that time. I remember seeing the sky lit from fire once we heard the news. The images of that day are haunting.

In more sad news, there's been 3 major air crashes in the past 2 days. This is really unsettling.  May their souls rest in peace.

On August 14, Helios Airways Flight 522, carrying 121 people, 48 of them being children, has crashed north of Athens minutes after the pilot and a passenger reported cabin pressure problems moments before the plane was due to land. One passenger text-messaged his cousin before the crash stating “Cousin, everyone is unconscious. We are all frozen...the pilot is dead...I bid you farewell.”  There were no survivors.

In Western Afghanstan, a Cougar AS532 Helicopter crashed on August 16, killing all 17 NATO peacekeepers aboard. Two helicopters were flying together with the peacekeepers when the rotor blades of one clipped the other one - killing all 17 aboard while the other made a hard landing and injuring five.

On August 16, West Caribbean Airways (McDonnell Doublas MD-82) while en route, the crew reported engine trouble with both engines. The plane began losing altitude and eventually crashed in the Sierra de Perija mountains on the Columbian-Venezuelan border. There were no survivors among the 160 passengers onboard the twin-engine airplane, including 152 French traveling from the Caribbean island of Martinique, and eight Colombian crew members.

wtf?!?
