So, it's been an interesting couple of days.
Wednesday morning I awoke full of vim and went out to get my hairs cut- I timed it perfectly so that I could pick up my laundry on the way back. It wasn't my fault that the laundromat was late. So I went and bought a shower curtain for the new place, and while at the place, discovered office chairs for only $39, so I picked one of those up to sit in front of my computer on (I've been using the folding chairs from The Wastes of Time- over the years they each broke and bent, one by one- the last one bit it just before I moved.) Got home, put up the shower curtain, put together my chair (which was surprisingly easy, considering it required an allen wrench.), and then went back out to get my laundry. Score!
It's AMAZING living 4 blocks from the subway instead of 10. It makes such a difference.
Kim had invited me and Andrew out to a party that night; I just knew they were friends of hers. Andrew said he was planning to get a little dressed up. So I cleaned myself up and put on my shorts and t-shirt. Kim was all, "do you have any pants you could wear? These guys are kind of vicious queens"- I mentioned my vow to wear pants and shoes as little as possible this Summer, and said the Queens would just have to deal, and if they didn't like it, I'd just head home. So we got to the party which was in a penthouse on 57th St. Lovely place, kind of small, but with a HUGE balcony that wrapped all around the place and was where the party was. Most of the men there were in shorts, like me, since it was an outdoor party. HA. Everyone very nice- no vicious queens to be seen.
There was a bartender, who kept pouring me whiskey. Food kept being brought out by this guy named Kevin- I thought it was odd that Kim knew the caterer, till I heard that he lived and worked there- these dudes could afford a houseboy.
Party was fun- met some nice people, including a jazz singer whose 4th album is coming out, and she has a concert in October a bunch of us from the party have said we'll all go to.
Left around 11 and headed over to Marie's Crisis, where Jim Allen was playing (his new schedule is Monday nights, Wednesday nights, and Sunday early). There was a bachelorette party there (because going to a gay bar is what you want to do when you're about to get married), who requested Into the Woods and Wicked. Most of the regular gang wasn't there, since I don't know who's caught on that the schedule's changed. Jim and I did "Our Private World" for the first time in ages, and kicked the song's ass. A strange woman said she liked my haircut.
Yesterday headed to Brooklyn to teach Elana how to format plays in Microsoft Word. Taught her all about Styles. Then we did lunch, ordering from an Italian place near her. Mmmm, Chicken Francese.
carasol had sent me an ad for an Administrative Assistant position, and the woman called me back- apparently they're looking for someone with a little more experience than I had (they specifically wanted someone who's been doing the job consistently for 5 years, whereas I've been in reception for the last year and a half). So that was disappointing, but she said that perhaps they'd keep me on file for other jobs where the requirements are not so stringent. Elana was amused, overhearing my conversation, that I referred to Temps as "a luxury item".
On my way home stopped off at Union Square to give J. Stephen his Planet Connections Award (I'd accepted on his behalf, since no one from his reading of The Jamb could be there).
Internet access was supposed to have been set up, but there were complications- Andrew does, but we still need a wireless router for me to access it (and, indeed a wireless card- my laptop seems to be acknowledging the existence of its card right now, but not sure how long that will last- right now I'm glomming off a nearby unsecured network). Have arranged my ipod! so that I can download and update new podcasts from my laptop without messing with the songs on there.
Got home, cleaned myself up, then headed into the city to meet
darksheik. We went to House of Brews, where I had a raspberry beer which was not repellent. Then headed over to The Tank for, which is now at the 45th St Theater- I didn't realize from the address till we got there. Chris from City Hall was doing "Audio Commentary", which was basically him and another guy MST3King the movie. In this case, Flash Gordon, a movie that
darksheik and I remember with fondness from our youth. We were 10 minutes early, but they'd decided since there wasn't a huge crowd, to start early and not charge, so we were in the lobby and could hear it through the door and
darksheik said, "It sounds like they're still in the plane scene". It was pretty funny- the movie's hilarious on its own, and the commentary added some nice moments. Considering asking if I can join the crew: would love to be the Tom Servo to their Joel and Crow. Glad I went.
Today meeting up with Maitely to work out at her gym (free!), then tonight is Susan's going-away party. Think it may be in the same place as Booth's birthday, but I could be confused.
Then Saturday I begin my Stage Management job.
