"One cannot review a bad book without showing off." --- W.H. Auden

So The Wastes of Time, as I expected, was not accepted into the Fringe. And Director is now too busy with other stuff coming up to do a show at the end of May. Which is really fine with me. He's talking about doing it sometime in the Fall now. Whatever.

Red Fern Theater Company (whose production of Raised in Captivity I reviewed) recently asked me to review whatever they have up now, and I said I'd taken 2 months off from reviewing to concentrate on my own plays. They just e-mailed to ask if I'd like to submit any plays for production - they're moving away from revivals and taking up new work. I don't have a lot of finished work that hasn't been done in NYC already, but I sent them Sweeter Dreams.

John Chatterton has extended the offer to have a monthly Short Play Lab, which is the next incarnation of his 1-and-10-page-play festivals.
The way it works is that you'll keep writing plays ranging from 1 to 10 pages and submit them to me. We'll put on whatever's ready once a month (except July and probably August), probably on the third weekend (to miss all the holidays). Rules of engagement will be the same as for the previous festivals, especially Send No Money! Where Eagles Dare will get the door. We'll attempt to produce a video and occasional anthologies.
I'd like to do the first one in June (20 - 21), after the upcoming 10-minute Play Festival. It will probably be a collage of short pieces, with one-page plays alternating with longer plays, but the format depends on the substance, and the substance will be the plays you submit.

Sounds interesting, but I shan't be doing June, since that'll be right in the middle of Suckers. But I do have a few pieces I've submitted - Princess, a one-page; Juxtaposition, Presented Without Comment, a 10-minute; and Gay Time Machine, a 4-page sketch I wrote ages ago.

For those not on my mailing list, tickets for the 10-minute shows are available here. On my night, Jonathan Wallace has a show in it, and Patricia will be in one of the others. And it appears one of the guys who auditioned for Calvin has a play in it also.

Lots of design work lately- Posters & Programs for the Get S.O.M. Series, as well as what is the 5th and hopefully final draft of the Imaginary Invalid postcard- Hope it is, would love to get paid for that now.

Lots of guys smoking pipes on the street lately. Odd.

My Driver's License is about to expire! I tried to get it renewed at the ez-renewal place on 34th the other day, but the place closes at 4 now. Going tomorrow morning.

Tonight at 7, Just ASK productions is doing their free evening of short plays at The Irish Rogue. I'm heading over.

postcard design, suckers, sweeter dreams, reviewing, wastes of time, ore or or, plans
