Tales of bears in ill-fitting hats. The Clubbed Thumb Biennial Commission (which inspired me to begin Ore, or Or 4 years ago) is
now accepting proposals, through July 15. The theme for year 2009-2010 is "The Crisis of Confidence Speech."
- Met carasol at her work to pick up her recording equipment (which fits in my pocket!). Was given hairy eyeball by lobby security, who were anxious that I was loitering in the lobby talking into my bomb detonator cellphone.
- Met up with oldsilenus and Mike R. to talk about doing 3 shows in rep in May. Looks like we're most likely a go. So Ore, or Or coming in May! We met at a Tea House in the Village, which didn't seem to have anything to drink except tea. I had some ostensibly mascarpone-flavored tea, which tasted like tea. Also sloshed some boiling water onto my hand as I descended the stairs. There appears to be no scarring, but I don't recommend attempting same.
- Then uptown to Don't Tell Mama's to record Broadway Chatterbox with guest star Rip Taylor, who was a hoot and a half.
- Then back downtown to review Sessions at the Algonquin. It's a new theater space (I got there, and realized I'd been there before, to see a TRU show, when the building was called something else). Tony Sportiello recently revamped it- there's two theater spaces inside- named the Parker and the Kaufman, after Dorothy and George S.- they have photos of each outside the doors- the house manager (another Sportiello) asked me if I knew who the lady was in the photo, and was glad when I knew Mrs. Parker. He said a number of people think the photo is of Angelica Huston. Apparently That Dorothy Parker originated there, before going to the Fringe. Luke showed up, nearly late, and we saw the show, which was adequate (though felt like a cabaret show to which someone attempted to write a script). Quite in love with actor Scott Richard Foster, who was awesome.
- Then back uptown to meet Tony after ITH. He'd gone on for Piragua, and so had autographs to sign and people to take pictures with. Also, three cute college boys (music/theatre majors) from the Midwest asked him some questions about acting, and since Tony is The Nicest, we stopped and talked with them for about 5 minutes. Then Tony and I chatted with the ITH street cop, then we headed over to the DTM Lounge. Ended up talking to this cute boy Jordan- we both thought the other looked familiar, but we couldn't place from where. Bartender, Jordan, Tony and I talked about Broadway And What Is Wrong With It for several hours. Good times.
