Friday night was the Spotlight On Halloween Variety show. It was fun. My cousin Rebecca was in town (dressed as the Jolly Green Giant), and she came and brought some friends. Saw a bunch of old Spotlight On folks.
Hold Thy Peace, Thou Knave went over really well, especially with
neoscribe (who of course was privy to the inspiration, and who was laughing his ass off). Theatre Folk really are the target audience for the piece, so that's probably not surprising. Ken said he appreciates the organized chaos I write.
Other entertainment was fun- Andrew's piece with
nswakko15 and Jenn B. was bizarre- a little predictable, but they seemed to have a good time- the blood packets didn't work right, apparently.
Sam looked awesome in his leprechaun costume- he left early, thanking me for letting him be in my show- I think he was getting choked up.
The dance piece was more entertaining than I expected, one of the singers less so. The Mistake's "Godzilla" sketch was hilarious, as always.
Now it can be announced- Spotlight On, Glory, and Jenn B. are teaming up to produce their own theatre festival next June, called Planet Connexions: A Theatre Festivity, which will focus on theatre of a political and socially conscious stripe. Looking forward to it. Maybe Suckers will have a home there.
After the party, went out drinking with
nswakko15, Andrew, Eric P, and Jenn down the street at West 36, which now has a new backroom, which will be awesome for future theatre parties. Jenn was slobbering all over the guys, as usual. She tried to get Eric and me to kiss, but it ended up not happening.
Then Eric insisted we all go down to Natasha's party, but by the time we got there, the party was over, and she and her roommate were groggily trying to sleep. So we went to
Silver Spurs and had food (really good Eggs Benedict- I've never had bad food there, but this was my first time on the breakfast there).
Got home around 4am. Lost my plastic crown somewhere along the way.
Saturday got pissed off at Staples as I recounted earlier, then bought an 11pm ticket to see
Synecdoche, NY.
Ran into Jared on the subway. He was really out of it- seemed very tired. We're looking forward to seeing each other this weekend at the 21 hour play festival.
Went home and tried to nap; was mainly successful, though was awakened by roommate and The Love of Her Life (who is in town this weekend) making bedroom noises.
Watched a lot of Wonderfalls.
Finally got out of the house and saw the movie. BIZARRE. Liked a lot of it, but very depressing at the end. Probably should have seen Zack and Miri Make a Porno.
Sunday woke up early to check out an apartment in Brooklyn. Nice place. Nice people. Didn't get it.
Came home and slept, then went to the first script rehearsal for the Apathy reading this weekend. New cast is going to be great. I have two comps if anyone wants to come- Saturday at 4pm.
Met up with Tony afterward. He was doing an Actor's Fund performance of In the Heights-
Stokes was in the audience and I saw him and his wife outside, just before they were ushered backstage to meet the cast.
Tony and I went to Bar Centrale for empenadas, where our waiter was the guy who played Quentin in
Small Craft Warnings. I told him I'd reviewed it, and he thanked me for the review (not everyone cared for the show as much as I did, though if I recall he got great reviews across the board).
We went to The Ritz for some uninspiring drinks (it was a slow night), then back to his place to watch The Simpsons and Family Guy.
I crashed on the couch, so as not to go home and be awakened by sex noises.
