Police: McCain volunteer changes ATM attack storyBitch. Thanks,
ladypuppy for the link!
(and, her friend Tim has friended me on Facebook)
Small Pond and Impetuous Theatre Group are doing
an interesting Hallowe'en show - turning La Salle Academy into a haunted house, where each room has a different scary one-act play. I think I won't be able to go, which is sad.
Folks giving away samples of the new Pom Iced Coffee in the meeting room here. Got the Café Au Lait flavor, which was just okay. Don't know if I'd enjoy, perhaps, chocolate flavor more. Little blond guy who looked like Barrett Foa asked me a few questions on it. Gave it a 5 on a scale of 1-7.
Found some folks from New World (college) on Facebook.
Patrick Then
Patrick Now
Wow, 16 years sure changes things. I had a huge crush on Patrick at the time.
Amazing how many people I know who went to college for acting are no longer pursuing it.
Need to finish up the program for the Spotlight On Halloween show today.
Upcoming shows I'm reviewing - let me know if you want to be my plus one!
- Wednesday, Nov. 5 - 8pm Missa Solemnis, or The Play About Harry
"On the morning of February 25, 2000, a young gay Mormon named Henry Stuart Matis drove to the Mormon Ward House in Los Altos, California, placed a gun to his head, and ended his life. This provocative drama is based on the actual events of his life in which he faced a tragic, false dilemma: either one is gay or one is Christian. Since he believed he was Christian, he thought he could not be gay. Trapped between his same-sex attraction and the power of his LDS faith, Henry made the ultimate sacrifice, removing the chains of his mortality." Please note: This production contains full nudity and may not be appropriate for children.
- Sunday, Nov. 9 - 4pm Sleepwalk With Me
stand-up comic Mike Birbiglia's one-man show - presented by Nathan Lane.
Tentatively grabbed by Booth, depending on his recording schedule.
- Tuesday, Nov 11 - 7:30 The Queens Company's all-female 12th Night
Not actually in Queens - it's at Urban Stages
- Friday Nov 21, 8pm - Boomerang Theatre Company- Native Speech by Eric Overmeyer.
In a futuristic city, one man tells it like he sees it-The Hungry Mother! He's the DJ with a strong pulse but a weak signal. He riffs on the truth with verbal virtuosity, with primal passion, with ambidextrous dexterity, with a sexy scream...but when his visions begin to manifest themselves in sinister ways, is he being played by darker forces? Or are his words creating a dangerous truth?
A really awesome script I've never seen staged - really excited about this one.
- Sidebar: I really wanted to do this play at Florida Playwrights' Theatre, with Paul Thomas and Lissa Grossman to play Hungry Mother and Janis, but although I think we announced it on the schedule one time, it never actually happened (we probably didn't have enough black people anyway). We did do Overmeyer's On The Verge, though (sadly, I did tech and did not play Grover, et. al - that's another show that, even though I don't act anymore, I would jump at the chance to act in).
And speaking of which, I recently found Miriam Kulick's website, and she has a photo from that production (with Lori Dolan on the right as Alex - I don't remember the name of the awesome woman who played Mary).
- Sunday, Nov. 23, 7pm - Boomerang Theatre Company - Parking Lot Lonely Heart
For hard-drinking Mickey, getting hit by a city bus and almost dying made him a millionaire with a supposed new lease on life. When his money is unable to keep his drug abusing daughter Emma off the streets, Mickey seeks salvation and forgiveness for the wrongdoings of his past by trying to rent the heart of an escort he found in the yellow pages named Louise.
