Weekend Roundup

[title of show] is closing on Broadway October 12th. *sniff*. Gotta go see it again.

Just agreed to be a writer in Phare Play's 21-hour plays in early November. Starting at 10pm on the 7th, I'll get actor headshots play guidelines, then I write a short play: write all night, deliver it 10am the next morning, then the directors and actors work on it till later that night, and do a 7 and a 9:30 pm show.
I was afraid I wouldn't be able to do it because of a staged reading I agreed to do on the 8th, but I think it'll all work out, time-wise- I may have to miss the first performance, but that's fine.

Cute composer I met after the MITF awards E-mailed. Google-stalked him, and he's apparently straight!? What?!

Some super-exciting happy things may be bouncing up on the horizon at the end of October, but I can't officially talk about them yet... But a few people have invited me to be a part of something...

Friday night Patricia and I went to see my show at DeBaun. Stopped off at Karma Café for some food - ran into Heather and her husband, who were also going to DeBaun, but were under the mistaken impression that Karma Café was actually a café, where they could get coffee.

Shows were interesting- it was 5 Hudson County theatre companies each doing a one-act.
1st was Attic Ensemble, with the worst production of The Philadelphia I've ever seen. The actors weren't listening to each other and weren't trusting that the text was funny, and so were doing schtick so that they would be funny. God, it was infuriating. I only realized afterward that the horrible guy had been in Noon and The Happy Journey, which I liked so much in last year's one-acts.
2nd was The Spot by Steven Deitz, which was politically provocative and amusing. I liked it.
3rd was Art House's contribution: Come to Me, which was an interesting surreal piece which starred Richard from Camino Real. It was well-done, but if the show had a point, I missed it. Great work from everyone making it happen, though.
4th (finally) was my show, which was great, though there were volume issues. ceebeegee did a great job directing, and the actresses were great.
Last was Chicken Salad, a cool piece about 2 people having a 1st date picnic on a boat, each presenting more and more extreme hypothetical situations about raping and killing each other. I liked it a lot.

Saw Jack and Lillian and Roland there. And Heather and her husband.

Went out to Court Street afterward for drinks. Didn't stay too long, since I had to be up very early the next morning to go to Brooklyn and see the potential new apartment.

Did that- love the place, hope I get in.

Came home and crashed, then met up with Susan, Glory, and Patricia at Dallas BBQ. Mmmmm.
Then we went to see Jeremy's nude choral reading of Leaves of Grass. God, it was exquisite. He's the same director who did The Wendy Complex. 20 or so naked people of all shapes and ages and sizes, each taking a section of the text and reading it aloud, while the others made evocative poses- including a woman bathing in a tub of milk, some grecian-inspired young men in nothing but capes, some just stood and listened- it sounds stupid written, but the effect was incredible. Patricia has become a Walt Whitman fan now.
Cast included the guy who played The Prince in The Wendy Complex, who- my god, the man is just beautiful. Very sweet, when we came up to say hi.
It was at The Cell, which is a really great space.
Sent Jeremy my play Six Silences in Three Movements - thought he might be interested in reading it, and possibly directing it at some point in the future. Think his visual style would mesh well with that play.

Met up with Tony & co for Sangria afterward. Tony's ex-lover Jaime was in town from Puerto Rico, and he wanted us to meet.

Sunday went to review Bedbugs!!! The Musical in the NYMF. I wasn't on the reviewer list, and so they didn't have a press kit for me. Got in anyway.

Came home and crashed again. Got a call from Tony asking if I wanted to meet up after his show. I'd been considering going to see the City Hall show, which would let out around the same time as ITH, so I said sure.

So glad I went to City Hall. Saw dontbethebunny in the audience, and we both weren't sure if it was us- we haven't seen each other live in person in ages (a year?)
- Sidebar, she just joined the cast of Start Trekin', an improv Star Trek show, and I totes want to go to that. -
Show was hilarious. Chocolate Cake City performed first, and they were amusing with moments of brilliance. Adam Hamway is incredible- his focus is perfect.
Then City Hall. They were great, it was nearly all new pieces I haven't seen, and just funny as shit. It's interesting- their style is rather commedia dell'arte in some ways: the old pieces had the same basic storyline, but new punchlines within the set script, some clearly improvised.
Plan to see them again at their next show in 2 weeks, if I can.
Everyone was really pleased to see me. Patrick said some nice things like, "It's just not the same without you", which I said was silly, since I only ran tech for them, like, 3 times when they needed someone desperately; he said that it was still great to be able to hear me giggling in the booth.
And OMG, they did one of their classic pieces, which this time, due to a cast change from the last time I saw the piece, included Josh (who I've had a crush on for a while), running around nearly naked. Had to stop myself from droooling, since I was sitting right next to his mother.
Told him how sexy he was afterward, and he said he usually gets that from much older men. Yay?

Then met up with Tony at DTM lounge, had a nightcap, then crashed at his place.

Going to the NYIT awards this evening with Caroline. Yay free ticket! woooooo.
