Went out to The Ritz last night for
starkeee's last-minute-birthday-drinks-thing. It was a nice mellow time. Eric B was there, and I met
starkeee's friend Bill. Patrick stopped by briefly.
At one point Bill was saying that he sort of wants to go see Xanadu again while Whoopi's in it.
I told him Jim Allen's joke about it now being called "Whoop-di-du".
He laughed and said he wished it was
Whoop-dee-doo!, because he loves that show. He has one of the songs from it in his audition book.
I said, "Oh, my friend
son_of_ottie was in a production of that in... some square state... Indiana! And..."
He interrupted, "Wait, was this in Indianapolis? And they used the original costumes?"
"Yes..."
"I SAW that production! Who did he play?"
"I don't know, ...he sang the Elizabeth Taylor song."
"That's the song I have in my book!"
Uh yeah, so small world. We've exchanged cards.
Other highlights of the evening were a swarthy twink showing off his dance moves to Kevin Aviance, two British fellows who just introduced themselves to our party (I think one of them had eyes for Bill), and me accidentally knocking
starkeee's cellphone across the room with an ill-timed dramatic hand gesture (it shattered to pieces on the floor, but was quickly put back together and seemed not the worse for wear).
Realized it was around 10:30, and texted Tony to see if he wanted to come by, and he said he was going to DTM lounge, after stopping off at some other place to watch the Obama speech. Eric and I left around the same time, and we stopped off at DTM briefly to say hi to Tony. He was there with his director friend Michael, who was very sad he'd missed Prince Trevor, especially now that it's nominated for all those awards. He recognized Eric from seeing our video on BroadwayWorld.com.
Eric and I headed to the subways, I'm sure giving more credence to Tony's idea that Eric and I are carrying on an affair that I haven't told him about.
Addendum: Tony just e-mailed me to say that Eric and I looked adorable together last night.
Got home and emptied out some beer cans for props. I'd thought I'd invite people over to help drink them with me, but my cast was busy (and frankly needed the night off, I'm sure), and anyway I had
starkeee's thing. So I just poured a 6-pack of Bud down the kitchen drain, rinsed them out, and went to bed.
At work an hour early today, but get to leave 2 hours early!
Will go home and finish up my sound design for my one-acts, then go see Booth and Pat, then tech for my show.
