Saturday met up with
defy_gravity99 to hold auditions for the final role in Prince Trevor. We saw a few people, and cast Christopher, who was the guy I'd seen in Brittany's reading. His intensity was awesome, and I think he'll be a great addition to the play.
Also, when I asked if he was okay with skimpy clothes, he said, "Sure, put me in a speedo, paint me blue, whatever". ...So I clearly need to write a new scene where this happens.
It was super-awesome to have the air conditionings there. Yay rehearsal studios!
Dropped off money at the bank, then dropped off postcards at Drama Book Shop.
Went home and relaxed a bit in the hot hot apartment, then headed out to
girlafraid's "Back to Astoria" party. That was fun. Some silly pictures from that
here. Brad pretty much ignored me again, and then went to hang out at the bar- after
neoscribe saying stuff about Oberon folks being mad about him playing for my benefit (pictures from which, BTW, are
here), I don't know what was going on. Walter is still friendly, at least. I asked him and
actress_in_nyc to come read my two-person play for my playwrighting group in a couple of weeks (PS- he can't do it. boo).
Yesterday went to see
This Is A Cowboy Poem My Daddy Taught Me I enjoyed it, but didn't think it was as fantastic as all that. (The reviewer on that page is an actress from Camino Real, btw).
Congratulated
DH and Rich afterward, then stopped off at the Drama Book Shop to kill time before meeting with Costume Designer.
Met at Starbucks with Costume Designer, and he showed me some of his early conceptions for the costumes. Beautiful stuff. Showed him photos of some of the cast from the benefit, which I fortunately still had on my camera. He's going to arrange fittings with everyone.
On the way home I ran into Luther from
Hudson Shakespeare Company, who was taking a break from the heat in front of the Ripley-Grier building. He said he's been really bad about keeping up on E-mails, but in his defense, he only has 7 fingers. Gave him a postcard for Prince Trevor- he seemed excited. HSC is rehearsing an all-female
Julius Cæsar, which he said is, so far, incredible.
THEN on the subway I ran into
Jason from Marie's, to whom I also gave a postcard. He recognized
ceebeegee's name on it from when she went to see one of his cabaret shows and wrote him an E-mail about how much she enjoyed it. As soon as he said that, I remembered her post about it- I didn't know who he was then.
The apartment is very hot since neither of my roommates have been able to figure out how to get the security grates off the windows to put air conditioning units in. (Heh, "unit"). Turned on my industrial fan last night, but still slept only fitfully. Finished Middlesex, though, so that's good.
Also, much as I love Chocolate Chip Cookies, this is not the time of year to be baking.
In randomness, a girl who I vaguely knew from Thespians in high school is now friends with Jess White, and thus found me on Facebook. She also went to college with Jeff Bowen from [title of show].
In other news, I'm having my informal "Come and Drink at Marie's!" birthday fun this Thursday the 12th at Marie's Crisis for Happy Hour. Drinking begins at 6:30. If you be of the house of showtunes, come and crush a cup of wine!
