A little treat

My review of A Grand Night for Singing.

Sulu's getting married!

One of my favorite things these days is to get a Frosty or similar from Wendy's and put it in a coffee cup so I can drink it at my desk and look professional. Today, Frosty with mix-in cookie dough pieces. OMG.

I thought I'd accidentally left my phone at home this morning, but I realized I put it in my bag (not where I usually keep it). I must have been all silly this morning. Too much weekend.

Saturday went to see Alex (and David's costumes) in Man of La Mancha. Man, Gallery Players is in Brooklyn, I live in Brooklyn; figured it would be easy. NO. Had to take 2 trains across Brooklyn to get there. Poo on that.
Show, fortunately, was very good. In many ways better than the recent Broadway revival. It's a show that lends itself to cramped confinement. Alex sing "Little Bird", and was lovely (I'd never seen him perform on stage before!).
The Aldonza was pretty fantastic, she kicked the shit out of "It's All the Same", though I felt she went just a notch too far with the screaming on "Aldonza".
The Padre was the first Padre I've seen that I haven't wanted to bitch-slap.
Lots of Hotties in the cast- the one with the Hot Guy Alert was indeed very hot, though I thought some of the other cast members were hotter (especially the Governor and Pedro).
Didn't care for the Sancho- I thought he was trying too hard; anyway, after the perfection of defy_gravity99, there is no other Sancho.
Missed Alex afterward, he went out a different exit I didn't know was there; I had to leave to get to DeBaun's thingy on time anyway.

...or so I thought- trains were on my side and I ended up in Hoboken an hour earlier than I'd intended. Killed some time by stopping off at "The Cage" (or, as I like to call it, La Cage), the Gay bar in Hoboken. When I lived in The 'Boke, we had one Gay bar called "Excalibur", which I went to once, and then the building was condemned, and then we didn't have one.
La Cage was okay for a Saturday afternoon. It was fun confusing the patrons and bartender, who weren't sure if I was a straight boy who'd wandered in by mistake.

Headed over to the Babbio center for the reception. Lots of wine and chocolate-dipped chocolate chip cookies and chicken fingers and whatnot. Mmmm. Then over to DeBaun itself for the show, which was great.
Nice performances from last season's shows, then they announced they're doing a concert version of The Secret Garden, and Tommy. SO tempted to audition for Secret Garden. I love that show. They did some selections from that- Mark and Leo came out onstage and I immediately got goosebumps, which lasted all through them singing "Lily's Eyes". Holy crap. Billy and Leah did "Wick", which was lovely.
kellygirlnyc rocked out some "Smash the Mirror" from Tommy. Awesome.

More drinks and reception afterward, then a bunch of us went over to Court Street and drank some more. kellygirlnyc was cracking me up with her own lyrics to "Wick": " ♫ When a thing is wick, it's really fuckin' wick... ♪"

Sunday I made chicken salad for kellygirlnyc's birthday party, and headed out there. PATH train was under construction and running behind, so I ended up getting squashed in the car with a whole bunch of people. Accidentally groped a hot Italian frat boy, and couldn't even enjoy it.
Finally got to Hoboken, and it was raining! Boo! That's not good for picnics!
Fortunately, kellygirlnyc's backup plan was to meet at her apartment, so we did that. Food was amazing. Cake and cupcakes were awesome. Benjamin ran around and was adorable. Good times.

Got home around 10, and wound down a little before taking a well-earned sleep.

Playwrighting group tonight. mollyx is bringing Act I of Foxy Brown.
