Went to see In The Heights. It was awesome.
Tony and I were texting during intermission "Where are you sitting? Can you see the stage left balcony?" Of course, that's where he does his big flag-dance in act II. He's hilarious, I especially loved him in the club scene where he's this skeevy not-dancing guy.
At intermission, I also bought a water, and the bartender was the chick from
What's the Point?!. She was shocked that I recognized her, "oh, are you a friend of Hector's?". I told her no, I'd just happened to see it, which she thought was amazing- apparently it didn't sell well. I didn't tell her I'd reviewed.
Was a little disappointed that they cut one of my favorite songs in Act II, but in its place is a song for Priscilla Fucking Lopez, whose character didn't have a song off-Broadway, so I can't be too mad. Also the new song is more in keeping with the theme of "home", so that's nice too.
Gave Priscilla F. Lopez my Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS donation.
Was disappointed that
the shirt I wanted is only in girl sizes. May get
one of the others- it's nice that you can order online.
Tony had told me that his friend
Jorge was in town to see the show also. Blanca was waiting outside to see him (they're old friends too), so she introduced us, then left. Then Tony stuck his head out the stage door, and beckoned us in. Got to walk on the stage again, always a thrill. Met Lin-Manuel; he's remarkably soft-spoken in real life. Jorge was taking pictures of everything, so I hope to have a picture of me, Tony, and Lin e-mailed to me soon. Giggle.
Also met Luis Salgado, who was very impressed that I'd seen the show off-Broadway (Tony was telling everyone that); he asked how it compared. When I said that I loved it, but I kind of missed Benny's song where he stood up to Kevin and gained a little of his respect, Luis totally agreed and said he missed it, too. He's a hottie (is he the one who's your friend,
melebeth? I couldn't remember).
Tony, Jorge and I went to Bar Centrale (one of Tony's favorite after-show places), because it's not loud and it's somewhat hidden away (they recently took the sign down, so you have to know where it is). Met Peter there, and we had wine and some appetizers (empanadas and deviled eggs (which were deviled with cilantro, which was a bit more deviled than I was expecting)), and talked the night away. They were showing
Stormy Weather on the TVs there (without sound- Peter identified it)- fascinating costumes. Jorge seemed very interested in my writing, and so I gave him my card. Didn't leave till almost Midnight, but was lucky with trains on the way home.
Francy is back from her family ordeals- everyone seems to have come through swimmingly, thank goodness. They apparently had to drill a hole in her nephew's head, but he's going to be fine, no brain damage.
Tony E-mailed me info on this show that a couple of his friends are in- El Super, put on by Hudson Exploited Theater Company; of course
son_of_ottie is in it too. Small world.
