Afterparty

After rehearsal I remembered it was Richard's birthday and he was having a thing at 9th Avenue Bistro, so I headed over there. The piano player is the guy who was playing when I tried to get Dave Z. to come to Marie's instead of Rose's turn for once. (when we arrived, it was happy hour, the place was practically deserted, and the piano player is somewhat frightening in aspect, so we just turned right around and walked back out). I don't think he plays at Marie's anymore.

He mainly played show tunes, but did a few of his originals, including the Duchess' song from his Alice in Wonderland musical (which a big drunk lady at the bar sang).
It ended with "♫ It's love that makes the world go round! ♪"
Then him, as Alice: "Somebody said that it's done by everybody minding their own business".
Her: "It's much the same thing."
♫ Ending musical sting! ♪

Saw a bunch of folks I knew: Richard, Franca, Big Mark, DH, Cute Boy Alex, Lanny, and that whole crowd. CBA introduced me to Chris, who immediately upon hearing my name knew who I was- all his friends know me and he's been seeing me pop up on friends-of-friends pages for years (I actually vaguely recognized him, too, but he claimed I didn't, since most of his online pictures are from when he was thin). This was the first time we've met in person. Fun guy. We're Facebook buddies now.*

Lanny and Chris had provided food. Mmm, chicken wings. There was also other stuff, but my hands were full with a drink and plate so I went for simple.

I've only ever been to 9th Avenue Bistro for other people's birthday parties. It's strange, both times I've been there it took me forever to get my first drink, then on my second the bartender introduced himself like he suddenly cared. Weird.

Franca said she wants to buy me a drink next time I'm at Marie's- I make her happy.

* John Short just added me on Facebook, too!
