Wedding Stories Part 1 (Friday Night)

Sep 10, 2007 11:24

So I left work on Friday and got to Heartland Brewery in Union Square, right on time for the Rehearsal dinner. Bam!

I'd never been to a rehearsal dinner before, so I wasn't sure what one entailed. What it turned out to be was great food, great people, and a nice time. The bridal party and the families of the betrotheds were all there, and everyone met the ones they hadn't met before.

Dad and Sheron are going to Australia next year, so Letham gave them tips on where to get the good fish 'n' chips.
Adam's son Seth loves to run around and bump into things; he's adorable.
Christopher and Claire accidentally dropped a fork on some people (we were on a balcony).
kellygirlnyc said my dad was adorably pushy when the restaurant staff were not ready for us at the appointed time.
Met Jesse, the photographer, who was fun.
Talked with Aunt Linda about my love life.
Had a great time with everyone. kellygirlnyc was especially hilarious.

darksheik and alexlady gave us all presents- I got an engraved flask (which is totally awesome, as I was just about to buy (a less-fancy) one recently and held off), a kit from The Art of Shaving, and The Boy Who Cried Fabulous!*. Then they passed around a grab bag of airplane alcohols for filling the flasks with. I was wary of filling up my flask immediately because it said to wash it first, but Shanna (who works for the company that engraved the flasks) pointed out that alcohol would probably kill anything deleterious in the flask.

After dinner, we headed out to one of the asphalty portions of Union Square, and got straight the order in which we'd be lining up, and practiced that a couple of times. Nearby a group of rather impressive breakdancers were setting up and drawing a crowd.

After we got that taken care of, we headed over to Xth Avenue Lounge, where there was a little "last night before we get married" party. George was to have reserved the back area for us, but they'd apparently triple-booked the back area with parties, so we shared with 2 birthday parties that came and went like the tides. It was really crowded.

Tony got to meet _chandra and my father; which was kind of weird but awesome. Jesse and _chandra also hit it off, sharing a mutual love of tattoos. Had some drinks, had some more fun. Tony had an issue with one of the waiters, who apparently assumed more of a tip than Tony was going to give him- i.e. $10 more.
Discovered that this one guy who comes into Marie's all the time actually is the manager of the place.
Went home earlyish, so I wouldn't be dead in the morning.

* coincidentally by Lesléa Newman, who wrote the short story "Still Life With Woman and Apple", the inspiration for my in-process musical "Lilith Over Easy" (as well as her more famous Heather Has Two Mommies).
