Finished The Baron in the Trees, the Italo Calvino book that Tony gave me for my birthday. It's his favorite book. While I did enjoy it, I don't think it's even in my top 10 (which list I really should type up one of these days*).
His Majesty's Dragon**, on the other hand (also a Tony B'day gift, about which I was more skeptical), is brilliant. Steampunk with dragons set during the Napoleonic Wars- it's really kickass. I'm nearly halfway through it already. It's the first in a trilogy, the other two books of which I think I shall need to own.
* Oh what the hell:
Duncan's top 10 favorite books (not including plays):
(I like all the work of most of these authors- for completeness, I only included one book by each.)
10. American Gods - Neil Gaiman
9. The Psalm of Herod - Esther Friesner
8. The Misenchanted Sword - Lawrence Watt-Evans
7. Lolita - Vladimir Nabokov
6. The Pig, the Prince, and the Unicorn - Karen Brush
5. Wicked - Gregory Maguire
4. Eighty-Sixed - David B. Feinberg
3. The Schrodinger's Cat Trilogy - Robert Anton Wilson
2. Summer of Love - Lisa Mason
1. Fierce Invalids Home from Hot Climates - Tom Robbins
** I mistakenly wrote the title as Her Majesty's Dragon last time- probably conflating the title with Her Majesty's Wizard in my head.
