Some asshole outside is blasting Kenny G's Xmas album at 8 am. So, yeah, awake.
(Update- 8:30, seems to have stopped. Thank X).
Yesterday was 4 parties! Woke up early, went to the Grocery Store and picked up the rest of the ingredients I needed for the trifle, came home and made it. The soy flour seemed to work fine, though it was a little clumpy. Finished sooner than I expected, so took a little nap, then headed over to Elana's.
I arrived at Elana's party earlier than expected (buses are weird sometimes), just before 2. I was the first to arrive, and Elana, David and I played a couple rounds of a strange scrabble-like crossword game that I can't remember the name of ("Wordigo"?). I put my trifle in the 'fridge for safekeeping and David put a note on it saying "Do not eat" so it wouldn't be eaten by mistake. More people arrived, including
carasol, Lorraine, and some other folks (and a very cute baby), so we abandoned that (which, like "Pretty Pretty Princess", can only be played by 4 people) and played Apples to Apples. That was nice.
Left there around 4 and headed into the city to "The Park", on 10th Ave at 16th Street. Nice place, very pretty. Got to see Emily and Derrick for about an hour. Had a peach martini. TM'd Jess to see if he was coming to that party before Glory's, and he wrote back "No, I am a boob". There was a guy there who looked eerily like David Lowey, only about 10 years younger and gay. Was hoping to see David Gautschy, but I was gone before he arrived. Did run into Scotty and another guy from the Workshop Theatre as I was leaving and they were entering; said hi, and I was off to Glory's.
Glory's Murder Mystery party was fun. It was one of the
How to Host a Murder series- this one was "Who Hung Woo?", set in 8th century China. All the men were in bathrobes, all the girls were in kimonos.
spark_plug_51 was in a gorgeous outfit, with chopsticks in her hair; she said, "I bet you've never seen me this chinked out before, huh?" I said, "No, you're chink-tastic!".
So it was me, Orion, Jess, Michael, Ain,
spark_plug_51, Glory, and Jordana. I was "Pen Ta-Gon", the scholar, so I was carrying books around the whole night (Annotated Alice and The White Knight). It was lots of fun. I figured out who did one of the murders, but the other was confusing, and nobody got that one.
Food was great- it was a pot luck. We had lots of Chinese food (appropriately), some chickens, and of course desserts. My trifle went over well, especially since it was gluten-free for
spark_plug_51's benefit. It was quite tasty.
Then I headed back out to Brooklyn to Randi's birthday party. I called
alexlady ahead to make sure the party was still going, and left her a message. When i got to Brooklyn, I had a message back saying that it was still going strong. Got there around 11, and indeed it was! Party was nice, food was great, lesbians were funny. Saw
darksheik,
alexlady,
kellygirlnyc, Randi and Dave (of course), and Julie (with whom I went to college and who is a friend of R&D). There were less attractive Jewish men than is usual at an R&D party, which was only for the good, since I was already sleepy and didn't need to be distracted. We watched the
"Chain Reaction" that the girls were on. Had a fun time, then left around 2 am (meaning I partied for 12 straight hours).
Took a cab home, which was only $8, and was a lot faster than taking the subway would have been. w00t!
