Truth, Justice, and the American... oh, sorry, what? Oh, it's time for lunch, I didn't realize.

Trial STILL not over, but they let us go early today, so I am now at work desperately trying to get some hours in.  Someone suggested that it's for the Jewish Holiday that we were let out early, but I don't know if that's true.  So, going back in on Monday.  Hopefully we'll be done by then.  Finished The Postman (nowhere in the book, BTW, does it have the melodramatic phrase "A dead postman can't deliver the mail"), a re-read of The Irreversible Decline of Eddie Socket (from which, I realized, I got the phrase "Christmas is Ruined"), and have begun a re-read of Pastwatch: The Redemption of Christopher Columbus.  The trial just started getting good- the defense just brought up a witness who's contradicting everything we've heard already.
The judge had to send us out of the room at one point in order to chastise one of the lawyers.  Finally, Drama!

Finding the contrast between the lawyers very interesting- one is just a simple country hyper-chicken, the other is very smooth.

Last night I went to Drunken! Careening! Writers!, Kathleen's monthly reading series at the KGB bar.  It was pretty neat.  Angela Himsel, Martin Hyatt, and Rich Merritt all read from upcoming books about growing up in fundamentalist households.  Some fascinating and funny stuff.  Angela was actually in a Fundie cult.  Both the boys were 'mos.  Met Kathleen's partner, Donna, who's reportedly an ex-nun.  Also met a guy named Chase who is a playwright/actor.

It was only 15 minutes from each of them; we were done by 8:30, so I headed over to Marie's Crisis for the end of Jim Allen's happy hour shift.  Glad I went- Jim was in one of his hyper moods; he kept playing the beginnings of songs, then stopping.  It was hilarious.
Finally did get him to settle down and play some stuff, by getting him on the TV Show themes.  Then we did "Our Private World", which then segued into "O Holy Night"- I hit a high Bb again, on that- every time lately that I hit a note I think is really high, it turns out to be a Bb.
We did "Till There Was You", and on the reprise everyone dropped out right before the big high note except me.  Then we did some of The Fantasticks, which was delighful.   Evie was there, and told me again how great The Wastes of Time was.  Left when Darren came on to play, went home and went to bed.  "Doing nothing" at a trial is exhausting, for some reason.

books, marie's crisis, temp, television, jury duty, drunken! careening! writers!
