That's it. I can't, not any more.

There's no point.

[ooc: Ianto is affected by the Road Less Travelled curse! In this, he never came to Torchwood Three after Canary Wharf, and without the help needed, Lisa died anyway. And without her, or Torchwood, he believes that he has no reason to go on ( Read more... )

Jack stopped at the main entrance to Xanadu and waited for Kyle. Hands in his pockets, his mind raced as he lightly fingered the stun gun he'd brought along with him.

He was seriously hoping, not to have to use it.

Kyle had taken the Jag over because it was faster. He would probably have to leave it there, as Jack would have an even faster way to transport them back to the beach house, but that didn't matter.

He parked it half-hazardly and pocketed the keys as he ran for the front entrance. He could already see Jack waiting and called out to him.

"Do you know where he is?"

[ooc: Sorry guys, family stuff for an hour or so. If you're still up Shelly, I'll probably be back tonight? Otherwise SP.]

The Jag might yet come in useful, depending upon how the situation played out.

"Still vague," Jack answered starting on into the gardens, his stride adjusted so that Kyle wouldn't have to jog to catch him.

"Honestly, Kyle I've never been here that much. Do you have any idea how best to canvas the area? Any high spots that could give us a good view?"

"There's an incline up the path a few yards. I usually loop around there first when I go on my run," Kyle said.

He pointed out the way and walked quickly, not quite running but not moving slowly either.

"What are we going to say when we find him?"

Looking in the direction Kyle pointed, Jack starts for the incline. In response to the younger man's question, the Captain's lips tighten a fraction.

"That will depend on his mental state," Jack answered, his voice indicating he wasn't expecting that 'state' to be good.

"We're not going to hurt him."

Kyle's expression and tone say he's not budging on that. So Jack might as well throw his stun-gun away.

Pausing, Jack turned towards Kyle.

"We're going to do what it takes to make sure he's safe," carefully intoned. "Kyle, his service weapon is missing."

Which means, Ianto is armed, confused and a danger not just to others but himself.

Kyle frowned, not convinced that Ianto could be a danger to himself and others. Not Ianto.

"You don't think he'd use it..."

"I think," Jack paused and looked around, then back to Kyle. "That at the moment he doesn't believe he has anything to live for or lose ... and that makes him very dangerous."

Kyle swallowed against the sudden panic and shuttered his expression into the "lawyer" face that served him well enough that not even Mercy could tell what he was thinking.

"He has us," he said, steadily.

Reaching out, Jack gripped Kyle's shoulder.

"And we're going to help him," even if it meant a little stun gun action until they could get him back to the safety of the beach house.

"Come on, let's find him."

Kyle leaned into the hand on his shoulder briefly, but then pulled away to move faster up the hill.

Hopefully from that vantage point they would spot their missing Ianto.

Ianto was crouched in a nook, with the gun tucked against his side for the moment, and although he had every intention of using it, well, he'd not used a gun since...

Well, he didn't want to think about that. But how hard could it be to shoot yourself in the temple anyway.

There was no wavering, no what if's, he was resolute. He didn't have anything to live for and he had nothing to lose. There really wasn't any point.

And, he thought, better to get it done sooner before the bastard Torchwood lot came for him. Holding the heavy weight of the gun in his palm, he clicked off the safety.

Ianto might be surprised how many people could fuck up shooting themselves in the head. Either they aimed wrong or had second thoughts at the last second and jerked or any number of things. Jack may or may not have first hand knowledge of these.

Then, not only were you suicidally depressed, usually you were a vegetable also.

Spying Ianto, Jack froze and reached out to grab Kyle. Pointing, he started to use hand signals but then leaned over to whisper.

"Go that way, make sure he can't run by you," and we would all hope for Kyle's wee, short sake, Ianto didn't try to run by him or Jack could tackle him before he reached him.

Nudging Kyle off in his direction, Jack began to close in on Ianto from the front.

Kyle may be wee and short, but by God he could run. And if it came to that he would.

He moved into position, very quietly so as not to spook Ianto. Something told him spooking the man holding a gun to his head would be a bad thing.

He wasn't holding it to his head, yet.

Usually Ianto could outrun Kyle, but in the state he was in at that moment, it was unlikely he'd be able to. Ianto had been thin when he'd first joined Torchwood three, but after all his secrets were out and he was happier, he'd put on the good kind of weight.

But in this case, he'd never been anywhere near Torchwood Three.

Not noticing the other two men, he lifted the gun.
