I've put together two mash-ups of the Flower Duet from Delibes' "Lakme." This was mainly inspired by Reliquary's fucking terrible attempt to turn it into a minor-key darkwave song.[1] I'm pretty satisfied with what I came up with by merging it with the outro from Portishead's "Wandering Star." The other version uses the rhythm track from "2Wicky" by Hooverphonic, but it isn't ready for public consumption until I do something about the clash in the vocals between the two songs and maybe strip out the guitars.
So, the first is downloadable on myspace.com/djschadenfreude as "Wandering Mallika."
Also, of course, this:
[1] Their cover is admittedly better than, say, Orgy doing "Blue Monday" or the cover of "White Rabbit" that's on the soundtrack to the recent Alice In Wonderland film (almost all of which is awful, especially the Avril Lavigne song). The singers are capable sopranos and their voices might be lovely if they were recorded well. Still, how hard is it to use microphones in such as way that every time you pronounce the letter S, it isn't five times as loud as the rest of your vocals? Too, there's nothing clever about screwing up the sensitive andante piano melody, changing the piece to a minor key and speeding it up. Ambition is a good thing, but ambition without talent makes you Sarah Palin.
