I have to agree to Wendy: this is very Brianesque.

First thing: I had to grin a bit. First Wendy with her "surprise" and now you with a death!fic.
Second: I'm obviously a very weird woman because instead of feeling sad I feel "satisfied". You said you are confused by yourself, and I can see that for one point: of all persons to choose Gardner Vance to be the mediator between reality and fantasyland is nothing that comes into my mind at first thought but then - who would? The paranormal element in QAF Land is unusual itself, and GV looked at least a tiny bit creepy (reminds me on the one main character of the Rocky Horror Picture Show).
Anyway, GV or not, I had a real big joy reading this. You've written this piece brilliantly. The way you described Brian from the moment he learned about Justin's disappearance until he cleaned the desk at Kinnetik is how we would see him on screen, if the story would be filmed. What you're almost always managing to do with your words is giving me visuals to the show even though your subject is different: now I read about Brian's grief in his very special way of not talking and looking fine on the outside but yet Gale managed to let us see that Brian fell apart from head to toe. This was how it went after Justin left for Ian. And I see it written here now after Justin disappeared. I think I told you before that you would be one of my favorites if there was a voting for "Wanted: screen script writer for QAF sequel". You often find the words to describe Brian's dark(?), heavy, always a bit like suicidal (?) soul. Maybe that 's why I didn't find this fic confusing - no matter the paranormal setting at the end I always could "see" Brian and everything made sense, until the great ending, their reunion.
And please, the last part, let's call it "Haunted Kinnetik" is f.i.r.s.t. c.l.a.s.s. Weirdo here has this tick with endings, and if you'd have left with the reunion it would've been ok and good, but with this ending and how you wrote it? A killer (in a good way, of course).

Thanks for sharing this with us!

*g* Oh, Pet, you're so kind! Thank you so very much for your flattering comment, hon! You know, sometimes, explaining things to others gives a clearer view of what I myself meant. As I I mentioned in another comment, I actually didn't feel sad when I wrote this, which is surprising for me. I usually can't read anything overtly sad about B&J.

I always had Gardner in my head for this fic from the beginning (which is quite a while ago, might I add). I think Wendy's description, "Keeper of the Underworld" sums his character up nicely.

I wrote the fic basically with two thoughts in my head. That Brian needed Justin more than Justin needed Brian and as a result, to show Brian's grief and the lengths he would go to in order to be with Justin. *g* I don't know if I succeeded, but I'm so pleased you enjoyed it! Thanks, Pet!

I believe the "Brian needs Justin more than the other way around" is common belief in the fandom. Death!fics are generally almost a taboo but if at all, writers let Justin die, so Brian can be shown in his grief. I only know one Brian-death!fic. I remember starting to read it after Laurie recommended it, and I was SO confused that a Brian fan, which the writer obviously was, dared to let him die. I contacted this person and she became one of my best friends.
