[Despite it probably not being a big enough drop in temperature to cause much alarm to mostpeople, the Empress feels like she's just been surrounded by ice. She's not used to these changes at all and can be heard sniffling slightly over the phone as she speaks, teeth chattering.
Half a day and she's already caught a cold] This place ch-changed

I'll get this sorted out, I promise you.

You c-can't shoulder everything o-on your own. Everyone will get through this t-together, hopefully. [Pause. Okay, enough about her now] How are y-you holding up o-on your end?

Perfectly fine and I know just how to change the subject when I'm not. Where are you?

The apartment. M-my apartment, I suppose. Or my 'family's. [It's very cold. I'm not u-used to th-this... [And she so saw what you did there]

Are you alone? A little girl alone in her big, cold house, an all too familiar story, and I don't like to hearing it. [sshhh, I'm trying to be kind here! I'm good at enduring!]

[She looks around herself, not at all sure where the other members of her family have gone off to. Probably work.] I th-think so. I don't h-hear anyone else. P-perhaps they'll be back later...?
[Hopefully]

Right, then be over before you can say "oh where has gone off too now".

Alright. I'll b-be waiting. [This isn't exactly how the ideal first meeting should go; the Empress is just sitting in the middle of the room, curled up, trying to get warm; her hair out of its usual ponytail and ending up about near her waist when completely undone.
And the fact she looks so miserable. It's probably not cold to most, but to her it feels like the middle of winter.]

There we are! Everything we could possibly need to get well in a fake, now communist, town.
[he dumps the stuff down on a chair and sits down across from her, looking into her face] Now how are we doing here.

And promptly sneezes. She covers her mouth, feeling mildly horrified, and sniffles]
I-I'm sorry. I, um... There must have been dust. [because she can't possibly be sick. She smiles a little, trying to get a hold of her shivering] Freezing. It was always comfortable weather where I was from, and I arrived here when it was getting warm.
The temperature change caught me off guard. [She's putting a considerable amount of effort into not stuttering right now]

It's as if all of reality has shifted. Almost like an alternate timeline but more severe, it was summer before but now it's cold, like the whole sky just... changed. How though...
[he tosses her a blanket]
It's not much but it will do for now. Though just don't go showing it off, might look a bit suspicious if we're all supposed to have the same.

[She wastes no time in wrapping herself in the blanket, gazing contemplatively at the Doctor.]
I don't plan on leaving much anyhow. If I feel this cold already in here, I don't want to know how cold I'll feel outside.
[The Empress is quiet a moment, before she continues] It's likely this place will go back to normal after a while, hopefully. It's like they're playing games, whoever it is that's running this place. Or testing us.

[he stares back at her, worry is increasing on his face]
Yes, yes, stay inside where it's safe, a good plan, a very good plan. At least until we figure out what's going on. But you have to tell me, has anything like this happened before?
