A few more recs from my not-very-comprehensive reading of Yuletide.

*

Content advisory: PTSD, flashbacks, suicide (canonical and uncanonical), references to transphobia and homophobia, numerous references to drowning, period-typical attitudes and language in relation to gender, disability, sexuality and race.

My favorite Yuletide story so far that wasn't written for me. This is beautifully written, with flawless dialogue and details, and it brilliantly explores the turbulent emotions between Marlowe and the King.

Torre Annunziata (1844 words) by Anonymous
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: King Rat - James Clavell
Rating: Teen And Up Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Characters: Peter Marlowe, The King (King Rat - James Clavell)
Additional Tags: 1940s, Post-World War II, Italy, Crueltide
Summary:
Peter Marlowe, still in his demob suit, bought a ticket at Victoria for the boat train.

A melancholy, evocative look at Marlowe's postwar anomie.

Feel The Earth Move When You Speak (9630 words) by Anonymous
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Lynes and Mathey Series - Amy Griswold & Melissa Scott
Rating: Mature
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Julian Lynes/Ned Mathey
Characters: Julian Lynes, Ned Mathey
Additional Tags: Case Fic, Victoriana, Magic, Ghosts, Oxford
Summary:

"Lynes. Do you believe in ghosts?"

(He doesn't. But Ned might be losing any choice in the matter.)

At times the casefic aspect is perhaps too subtle for its own good (I didn't always understand the characters' reasoning), but on an emotional level this is a fine story. I like the juxtaposition of the sweetness of the emotional developments between Ned and Julian with the harrowing nature of the situation they uncover.

Songs of Innocence and Experience (1781 words) by Anonymous
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Peter Pan - J. M. Barrie
Rating: General Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Characters: Peter Pan, Captain Hook
Additional Tags: Breaking the Fourth Wall
Summary:
Neverland is more than Peter's home, more than his domain ... he is more a god than a king. So where does that leave its other inhabitants? Where does that leave Captain Hook?

Strange and wonderful. This is to Peter Pan what Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead is to Hamlet, and I love it.

and so this is... (1420 words) by Anonymous
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Pride (2014)
Rating: Teen And Up Audiences

Relationships: Jonathan/Gethin, Joe/various, Steph/OFC
Characters: Jonathan, Joe, Mark, Mike, Steph - Character, Gethin
Additional Tags: Dogs, Christmas, Politics, food as metaphor for murder, Margaret Thatcher - Freeform
Summary:
When the world falls apart, some things stay in place.

This ensemble story nicely captures the humor and warmth of the movie.

Turn It Into Light (11209 words) by Anonymous
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Rivers of London - Ben Aaronovitch
Rating: Teen And Up Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Peter Grant/Thomas Nightingale
Characters: Peter Grant, Thomas Nightingale
Additional Tags: Case Fic, Getting Together, Hurt/Comfort
Summary:
Peter and Nightingale drive to Kent to investigate a series of seemingly unrelated and unexplainable cases of memory loss.

I hadn't yet read this when I posted my R-Z recs. I very much like the character interactions here, and especially the way the author shows both Nightingale's vulnerability and his strength. There's a tenderness between Peter and Nightingale that I found very moving.
