There's something about the juxtaposition between form and content that makes it incredibly heartbreaking. I mean, it's a friggin' mirror talking, and yet we see exactly enough of Lupin to be devastated.
There were a couple of lines in particular that knocked me right over. Like,
Yes, I used to think. This is what I'm for. Show me loveliness, and I'll double it.
and
Master Remus wants a story he can live in, a story he can shelter behind. A story with the hope unbroken. A story that goes: once upon a time, Remus Lupin loved Sirius Black. The end.
Just...gah. Fills me with achy shivery loveliness.

I'm so glad to hear that the OC thing and the character voice worked for you. I'm getting the sense that they didn't, for a lot of people (at least, if the resounding lack of feedback from Potterverse folks is any indication). I mean, *I* like it (it's not every day you get to write from the POV of a [sort of] inanimate object), but maybe it's not Remus-n-Sirius enough for the fans of the ship. Or something.

Granted, I don't ship Remus and Sirius very hard. It's more a case of, "oh yeah, that's the stuff slashy subtext is made of" but it doesn't hit me in my warm gooey places. Really, there aren't any HP ships that do---my interest in HP is about other things.
The fact that this story hit me the way it did in spite of this fact is a testament to your skill.
