Staff Recommendations for the week of June 27th - July 3rd, 2010
- ★ - [part seven: fill] Theodore Yogi Adams- Washington Bear [America, grizzly bear, ensemble] - America brings his friend to the meeting. The other Nations are not so much disapproving as terrified.
Staffer's Review: While a brief fill, it is full of laughs. In case the name didn't give it away, it is a delightful combination of hilarity, absurdity, and in-character responses!
- ★ - [part seven: fill] At His Mercy [North Italy/Germany] -- Germany is rather tied up, but hopes North Italy is capable of at least one thing: getting him out of these knots.
Staffer's Review: A wonderfully funny fill, where North Italy is devious and still...Italy while Germany is genre-savvy in all the wrong ways. The fact that it is in Germany's point-of-view only adds to the hilarity.
- ★ - [part seven: fill] Copenhagen [Denmark, Germany] -- It's said that they're "civilized" now, but Denmark knows that for all of the scientific advances, "civilization" is just a thin veneer.
Staffer's Review: This fic takes all of Denmark's character clichés and then turns them on their head by making him brilliant at physics, which I am an enormous geek for. The voice, too, is the same brashness that we're used to with Denmark - but what he's saying is far, far more politically and strategically astute than most portrayals will give him.
- ★★★ - [part six: fill] Unsurprise Buttsecks [Denmark/Norway] by valmora -- Denmark gets quite the welcome home.
Staffer's Review: This story is all hot, intense sex. What really makes this fill stand out is how the author paces the story: it's quick, it's "now," and we are just as much along for the ride as Denmark is. And while this staffer does not know what got Norway into this mood, she is happy for Denmark and wishes that it would happen more often.
Fic: ★ - 1 Star Fills
- [part seven: fill] Untitled [Spain/South Italy] -- Antonio wants Lovino's last days to be happy. But the specter of death overshadows everything.
- [part seven: fill] Hero [America/England] -- England doesn't want to leave America. He knows that once he leaves, America will be gone.
- [part seven: fill] Smile For Me [Switzerland, Liechtenstein] -- They'll part with a smile, for they'll meet again one day.
- [part seven: fill] Death [America, England, ensemble] -- Surrounded by friends and family, America dies peacefully and without any regrets.
- [part seven: fill] Moments [Latvia/Sealand] -- Latvia and Sealand make the most of their remaining time together.
- [part seven: fill] An Empty Nest [America, New Mexico] -- New Mexico surprises America with a request.
- [part seven: fill] Passhole-Agresshole [Canada, America, England] -- That's not really an apology, Canada.
- [part seven: fill] The Things I Do For You [England/Seychelles, France] -- For the sake of love (?), England plucks his eyebrows. Hopefully, Seychelles would appreciate this sacrifice.
- [part seven: fill] Like Taking Candy from a Baby... [France->Canada, England->Canada] -- France and England think it will be easy to seduce Canada. At least one person (America) has doubts about this.
- [part seven: fill] Che il Signore di cui sopra vegli su di tu, Mussolini. [North Italy, Mussolini] -- North Italy knows his boss Mussolini was a terrible man, who had done awful things. That doesn't mean that he won't shed tears for him.
- [part seven: fill] Untitled [Ensemble] -- Russia makes a big matryoshka doll. He is the largest doll, containing all the others. The other nations see less benign motives behind this.
- [part seven: fill] This Just Got Awesome [England, Prussia, Germany, Hungary, ensemble] -- England has to admit that Prussia really knows how to make must-see television.
- [part seven: fill] Burgers are best when sick [Russia/America] -- Russia is so concerned about America's cold that he brings him something to eat.
Fic: ★ ★ - 2 Star Fills
- [part seven: fill] Bide Thee, Night [Sweden/Norway] -- This will be their last night, and their last time. In the morning, Norway and Sweden will go their separate ways.
- [part seven: fill] Nights Like This [Fem!Lithuania/Fem!Poland] -- A welcome intruder enters through Lithuania's window, her kisses a soothing and arousing balm after Russia's harsh abuse.
- [part seven: fill] Anna [OCs, Germany, Poland, Japan, ensemble] -- She goes out and tries to keep her people save, with the help of her brothers and sisters.
- [part seven: fill] No Man's Land [OC, Prussia, Germany, ensemble] -- Moshe won't stand back and let his people be killed. He'll go out and do something about this.
- [part seven: fill] The Revelation of the Beast [Russia, Johan Liebert] -- Though worried about a recent spat of poisonings, Russia is happy to have made a friend in one Johan Liebert. Yet even he becomes unnerved by the charming young man...
- [part seven: fill] Diplomacy [fem!Turkey/fem!Greece] -- Even with diplomacy in fashion, some things are still the same. Like conquering and sex, which are pretty much equivalent anyway.
- [part seven: fill] Blood is Thicker [England/America] -- Alfred is in quite dire straits, in the hands of this pirate captain.
Fic: ★ ★ ★ - 3 Star Fills
- [part seven: fill] Boundary Issues [America/Canada, Russia/Canada, Denmark/Canada] -- Canada is taken advantage of by the other members of the Arctic Council.
- [part seven: fill] Put in His Place [Austria/Prussia] -- Prussia bursts in expecting to do some invading. But the tables are turned, and it's Austria putting Prussia in his place.
