30 Things That Make Me Happy
Not in any particular order, no precedence given here.
1. Playing tickle war with my kids, while laughing uncontrollably.
2. Hiking with my family.
3. Painting and drawing.
4. Burying my face into Rocky's fur.
5. Sex. Yep. It makes me very happy!
6. Drinking and eating with my parents. My parents, grandparents, brother and family as a whole!
7. Food. Good food. Tasty and not always healthy for you kind of food. I am not someone that can drink a yucky protein shake and call it a day. Cooking good food makes me happy also, sometimes.
8. Half melted vanilla ice cream with a cup of good coffee poured on it. I know it's part of food, but it just needed a special mention.
9. Organic Ethiopian Shade grown coffee with organic half and half.
10. Rainbows and Kittens! Not a joke, they really do make me happy.
11. Shopping in A.C. Moore and Barnes and Noble. Shallow, I know. There is just something about all the colorful things in A.C. Moore, and all the book spines in B&N. Which brings me to my next point:
12. Books. All books. Real books! All, except the self help section. Self help books make me profoundly miserable.
13. While on the subject, reading makes me happy, especially while sitting on the toilet, with a cup of black tea propped precariously on the bath tub edge. Yep, that's good stuff.
14. Swimming. Preferably in an ocean with big waves. If that's not available, any other body of water will suffice. No toilets in this one.
15. Compiling and running a java program successfully. Truly, feels amazing.
16. Music. The kind that pours into your head and resonates inside of you for a long time after you're done listening.
17. SpongeBob and Arthur cartoons. I watch them with my kids in the middle of the day, when dirty laundry is overflowing, fish need to be fed, and the sink is so full of dishes it might burst. Sometimes I watch them alone, under similar circumstances, while my kids do more productive things.
18. Sitting on the deck with my husband and having tea together in the summer time.
19. Jumping on the trampoline.
20. Hanging out with friends. Whether it is childhood friends, other parents of my kid's friends, or somebody new. Always exciting to see the world as other people see it.
21. Looking at art others have created!
22. Presents. Both giving and receiving. I know, cliche. If I have a present for someone I can never wait till it's time to give it, I usually give it right away. Life's too short to wait for the right time to give a gift. I just wind up buying another one for the occasion.
23. That one day early in Spring when it suddenly gets really warm, and you really do believe that summer is not that far away.
24. Summer, and sun, and warmth.
25. While generally I am not a fan of winter, sledding is awesome! When it snows we do it often and a lot.
26. Playing stupid (the card game) with my father in law, husband and son right after dinner.
27. Building giant castles out of blocks with my little guy, and sometimes just alone.
28. Mario Kart.
29. Sleeping. There is nothing as good as my mattress, pillow and blanket at the end of the day.
30. Having long conversations with my mom on Skype. Skype rocks, by the way.
Recently, I watched someone close to me get sick and die. It was all at home, and we took care of her till the last minute. One thing among many that I did take away from this is to enjoy the little things in life. Truly small things, like kittens and rainbows. Also, as long as I can go outside and look at the trees and sky, breathe, walk to the bathroom, and poop unassisted, sleep at night and eat without a straw, I will be a happy camper! There are many more things I can put on this list, but it's time for number 29.
