Okay so I don't know if I told you guys but I spent my birthday in NYC. A friend and I just picked up and went to New York for four days... and I've got something to share. I wrote this when I was on the plane on the way to NY and didn't write anymore but just know that the trip went excellent. I am an adopted New Yorker now. I know the transit system like the back of my hand... anyway here goes:
7:52AM
As I sit here and write this, it is 7:52AM and I am on an American Airlines plane headed towards New York City. It’s my first trip to “The Big Apple” and I’m rather excited. I’m going to be celebrating my 20th birthday there which July 26th. I have to admit, I was less than enthused to get on the plane… it’s smaller than the planes I’m used to and overall I’m not a big fan of flying. Take off is like terrifying for me. Despite all that I was able to watch the plane take off. I got a little nauseated but it passed and now I’m glancing back and forth between the laptop screen and the scenery out the window. It’s beautiful! Everything looks so small from up here.
Sitting next to me is my friend, Frank. He’s asleep. Poor thing…. Neither of us slept last night in anticipation so we’ve both been up for 24 hours straight. I, however, don’t feel sleepy so I’ll leave the sleeping for tonight.
I have so many things planned for this trip. I’m dying to see and do the normal tourist things that as mundane as they may be to someone else, it’s exciting for me.
We got to the airport this morning at around 5:15AM. Frank slept over at my house and my uncle drove us this morning to the airport. We got our bags checked and our boarding passes then did the whole “pass through the metal detector” thing. Then we walked to our concourse and sat there, waiting for the time to board the plane. It wasn’t really boring because I had my laptop on the whole time plus Frank and I talked the entire time. When it came time to board the plane I got really nervous but after prayer and a few calming breaths I got it all under control.
Right now the pilot is speaking and announcing that everything looks good and it looks like we might be arriving in New York up to twenty minutes early. He says the weather conditions in New York are partly cloudy skies with a temperature of 71 degrees Fahrenheit.
I’m just going to sit here and enjoy the rest of the flight… and also expect some food. I’m really hungry! So is Frank… I’ll have to wake him when the food comes around. Gosh, the sun is really bright at 33,000 feet. Everything seems pretty calm… no one’s talking. They’re either reading or sleeping. That’s to be expected given the hours we had to be at the airport. A lot of people hate flying at odd hours but I don’t. I prefer it actually. There’s less congestion… less hassle… less screaming children running all over the airport asking their parents if they’re going to get on a plane soon.
Anyway that's all I wrote... oh and for those wondering... My birthday was July 26th and I turned 20.
