so, my trainee has hit the "wall" today.

the "wall" is what I call the moment when a trainee decides that this job isn't for him, it's too much work, not fun enough or many other reasons. he complained about how he felt I was treating him like a five year old but of course he didn't want to get into it with me.

I've let him do all the decisions, make mistakes and only stopped him from getting into big trouble.

if that is how 5 years old are treated where he's from, good for them.

I left him on his own for a while and eventually he started talking, about everything but the problems. it took about an hour to finally get to the problems he felt we had and in the end it comes down mostly to communication and what he thought i was expecting of him.

he thought I was expecting him to drive exactly the way I was doing it, down to not taking any breaks between stops. we resolved that and he's doing to drive the way he wants, within the limits I've imposed, but he's ok with starting at 6am.

I've also suggested he get more sleep, I think he's barely been getting 6 hours a night since we started and while he didn't really acknowledge it I could tel l that today the lack of sleep affected him.

we talked about 2 hours over all, more than half of that was about unrelated stuff. he has this habit jumping from one subject to another even in the middle of asking a question. the guy only speaks in the most genertal temrs, I mean he can't even give me details when I asks him what I did that made him feel like a 5 year old, instead he started relating how he used to go about training people in stone work . . . . I have yet to figure out how that related to my question.

but ultimately he's doing better now, I think he's going to make it through and be a pretty good driver.
