General Update

So I think it's time also for a general update in the life of John.

Classes are...going. I'm a little behind in directing work as well as Irish History, but I'm not too worried. The directing work is meant to be hard, and if I were on time, then that means I most likely forgot about something. Irish History is external studies, so I just need to head to the library and do a few study blitzes, and I should be fine. It's all good though because I really like the class, and the teacher is awesome. He's some post-hippy guy who's been going to Northern Ireland for like thirty-six years and is now the orientation adviser to out-going study abroad students from Belfast to the United States. In just one session he's shed light on so much of "the troubles" that I often misunderstood or did not know entirely. Everything will be okay.

As for Delta Chi, twelve people have been pinned/joined our associate member program. I'm very excited. From whom I've met already, I can tell this class is going to rock. They seem to have their heads on straight, and they get along with the brothers really well. We just started intramural football. I would've liked to go to our first game last night against Dirty Phi, but my body hated me yesterday. I've been having really physically strenuous rehearsals (which I'll talk about in a few), and this change of season thing (especially when it goes from summer to fall to winter and back to summer in about two days) is making me its bitch. I've already been sick this semester, and I fear something else coming on. I woke up this morning feeling groggy as hell despite the fact that I slept soundly through the night. This is a wee bit of a digression from Delta Chi, but I just needed to say I felt like shit this morning, and the first thing I did after class (besides eat) was get a hair cut. Surprisingly that seemed to help a bit. I feel very sexy now. I'm back to the old me.

Anyway, briefly back to Delta Chi. We're having our Halloween Party on the 28th, so anyone interested in attending should let me know so I can get your name on the list. This means you, Ashley (since I know she's be most interested of all the people who read my livejournal)! Apparently last year's party was talked about all the way until February. I wouldn't put it past the boys to have a kick ass time. For the party, I'm being Martha Stewert. Depending on how hedonistic I feel that weekend, I may be disco Jesus for other parties. We shall see... I'll keep you posted.

Rehearsal is..."VERY INTERESTING." I quoted that because it's one of those English phrases that our director often uses. I've been very busy with it for the past few nights because I'm in a lot of act three as a fool and act four and five as Boult. We also had our first choreography rehearsal on Sunday, and let me just say...I HAVE DISCOVERED MOTIVATING FACTOR NUMBER TWO FOR GOING TO THE GYM EVERY DAY! I get there, a wee bit hungover from the night before, wearing tight blue jeans and my red combat boots, and the choreographer asks if any of us can do cartwheels or handstands (with assistance). I first did a cartwheel, and I surprised myself. I made it all the way around and managed some other fancy kick/dance move thing. Then she asked if anyone could do this assisted handstand thing, and I raised my hand because when I was younger, my friend Jason used to make us do these things all the time because he learned them in gymnastics and then we'd just have fun trying all the stuff in my back yard (when it was grass). So the choreographer stood there with her arms out and said, "alright, do it." I hesitated a bit, but I dove to the floor and kicked up my legs and I was on my hands. I forgot how much of a thrill that is doing that stuff. I could literally feel myself holding my body upside down. She then turned around and pulled me over her back, rooting my feet back to the ground. I spent the rest of the hour repeating that, and later I did the same handstand while Jessica opened and closed my legs for some weird little clown-like "hello, goodbye, hello, goodbye" thing.

Needless to say, my body definitely felt the activities of yesterdays rehearsal reverberating in my joints and muscles.

Backtracking a bit, I had a shit ton of work to do last week, including leading a class discussion in Irish Lit on Juno and the Paycock (one of my FAVORITE plays of all time) and an image presentation for Directing. And I would like to thank Tara, Kate and Guest for letting me crash at their place twice last week. While we should have been studying, we instead ordered pizza and watched The Grudge and then Romy and Michele's High School Reunion. I woke the next morning bright and early to pretend to be a director and get together an image presentation, which turned out surprisingly OKAY. The next night, Thursday, Kate called me to tell me that they were having a ladies night at the apartment and they all wanted me to be there. I picked us up three bottles of wine, and we spent the night drinking, smoking cigarettes, watching Ab Fab, watching Polyester (which Guest LOVED! :-D), and taking exotic pictures with make up on. Adriane, Bri, and I made a pact a few weeks ago that we would put on "Mimi" make up (Mimi as in Drew Carey). So I allowed Adriane and Bri to put make up on me. It wasn't as sloppy as I expected it to be though. Although stoned, Adriane made it a point to make it the pretty, smudged/smokey eyes. Yeah...so...the next day I just came back to my house, skipped my class, and slept from 11 - 5:30 (in time to scrub as much make up off as possible and go to rehearsal). I got out of rehearsal, went to the ashtray, and met up with Luke and Mike who were giving me money to go pick up champagne for the boys' champagne night. I know - I have the best of both worlds! I picked up eight bottles of champagne and went back to Castle Grey Skull where we then began to drink champagne at a rather rapid rate. I didn't feel much of it though because Dan and I walked to Wendy's and scarfed down burgers and chicken sandwiches...that's right, "COW AND CHICKEN MEET AGAIN...IN MY STOMACH!" I then met up with PJ and Barron at the bar, and we proceeded to drink at a rather rapid rate also. I ended up walking home the back way from Shadyside and talked to Matt (see previous few entries) online. That was nice. Different. But nice.

Saturday night was Edward 40-hands night. Everyone was drinking at the boys' place. There was a small party. I brought myself some 40s. That's pretty much all there is to say about that. I drank them and played Super Mario Brothers 2 (MY FAVORITE). Then I smoked some hookah and dry-heaved in their toilet. Lovely evening, indeed.

Anyway, this is long enough. Last few tidbits: went to the gym for an hour and a half today, got the phone number of the personal trainer in charge of the PT program at Bellefield, feel great (with the exception of the aforementioned change of season shit), and looking forward to doing full runs of the show since we FINALLY completed blocking Act 5. Twenty-Three more days! I can't wait! I want to be cut by then!

That is all. Good night darklings.

Oh, and another last minute thing: Kisses go to Tara, my lovely GF, who dared me to stuff the entire order of french fries at Wendy's into my mouth. Shy of a few fries, I managed fit most of the order, resulting in Tara in tears laughing at me because I looked like some hick with EXTREMELY bad teeth and me spitting all the fries into the bag. Le sigh...
