WTF? I know LJ is now owned by Russians, but RuTube?

You know, gorgeous Russian girls can dress up, bleach their hairs, wear makeup and even make music videos for their own YouTube clones - perhaps to try to look and sound like your typical California beach girls. But that's all they can hope to do: be mere replicas ( Read more... )

Oh, sorry I didn't reply sooner. I have been out and busy all week.

Anyway, I see your link to the interview this blu-ray guy gave and what he said about conversion. The only problem is what he is saying in not true. Playstation 3 can't convert regular DVDs to 1080p. It just cannot. There was some discussion a little while ago that I have seen where they showed why Blu-ray in its current format won't upconvert much more than regular DVDs. It is pretty noticeable too though. I have compared both players and the Pioneer Blu-ray I have looks pretty much like regular DVDs. The Toshiba unit is a different story. It's not true-HD, but it's pretty darn good.

Okay, you must be talking about the first HD-DVD discs. Blu-ray and HD-DVD have gone back and forth as far as who can fit more data in a disk. The last I read was HD-DVD actually had about 5 or more GB than Blu-Ray. The reason why Blu-ray can fit more is because the coating that they use to protect the discs are much less (in thickness) than HD-DVD. It's also why Blu-ray movies are more susceptible to scratches (hence, scrapped) than HD-DVD. In fact, it (the scrap rate) has become a production nightmare and the biggest reason Universal and Paramount have stayed away.

Btw, most of this information I got from the HD-DVD community sites.

Ahh I see. I dunno. We're just happy with watching Blu-Ray and regular DVD movies...to me everything looks awesome. I just bought what I thought was going to win-out long-term and it was Blu-Ray. Looks like I wasn't alone. I was just looking out for us :)

But really...I think the disc format is a waste since most people will be using things like appletv to just download HD movies. We'll see.
