WITh: WOLF!Teddy
A portrait inside the Gryffindor common room, off in a little noticed corner, quietly opened, and three figures stepped through. One quite small and at the forefront. Skirting any night owls, the two taller figures followed the little streak of white up the stairs into the boy's bathroom, reforming into a tall blond man, grey of eye, who was soon followed into the room by a short indigo-hair'd woman, and another tall man with black curly hair and piercing green eyes.
Ted stared woefully into the icy bathtub water. Damn. Draco was really serious. He was going to tell his mum. Shit. Why had he even brought it up? Shit.
There was a light knock on the door. "Sweetie?" Tonks called from the other side.
"I'm fine, Mum, uh, thanks for checking. You can go home, ok?" Ted sank low into the water and tried not to actually panic. Oh, Merlin. His Mum was actually here, right outside the door. Oh, hell.
"If you honestly think that is enough to get your mother to leave you be, you obviously haven't heard enough tales of her stubborn nature," replied an unfamiliar male voice.
"Teddy, I'm giving you until three to get somewhat decent," his mother said again.
There was a very familiar Draco!Chuckle at that comment.
Who all was out there, anyway? Ted cursed vehemently under his breath and snatched a towel from the pile, wrapping it hastily around his waist and dripping irritably on the floor. Ow, sudden movements were a lousy idea.
His under-breath cursing hid the first number. "Two," was said from the other side, and the door handle jiggled.
Ted sighed. She wasn't going away until she saw for herself, he supposed. "Ok," he said, and waved half-heartedly at the door, which unlatched.
Tonks peeked in at her little boy.
Ted was all in one piece, but he was definitely sore. Bruises bloomed around his ribs and spine, one of his eyes was black and blood dripped from the corner of his mouth, which was a bit bruised up as well. He shook his hair into his eyes, embarrassed. "See? Not that bad."
His mother didn't think so. She rushed in, gently hugging him, and checking him over. "Who did this?" she asked, her voice almost shaking.
"No one, Mum, it's fine." Ted glared at his cousin. "Draco just has a big mouth." He picked up another towel and wrapped it around his shoulders, trying to cover up some of the bruises. "They weren't all that serious."
"The fact that there's a 'they' is serious enough," Tonks said, leading him over to sit down on one of the benches. "Lord Sal, do you have any of those ointments Lady H. makes?"
"Of course, Nymphadora," the other man replied, pulling a few jars out and handing them to her.
"I don't have a big mouth," Draco protested.
Ted's head snapped up when his Mum addressed the strange man as Lord Sal. He had suspected, but hadn't known for sure that his Mum was living with two of the school's founders. This seemed to be proof enough. "I feel fine, the ice helped," Ted mumbled. He frowned at Draco. "And you really do."
"Do not, I simply have familial obligation," Draco smirked.
"Let your mother fuss," Salazar told him mildly, a small quirk on his lips as he stepped back.
Tonks merely took the first of the jars and opened it, getting some of the mixed potion on her fingers and shoving the towel off her son's shoulders as she started rubbing it among the bruises.
Ted gasped at first, trying not to grimace when the potion touched an abrasion. He relaxed and sat up straight, staring out of the window. "I'm Ted," he said to Lord Salazar. "I guess you knew."
"I saw you come by to visit your mother a few times," he admitted, nodding in acknowledgement. "Godric wanted to come along as well, but he really is useless when one of his little lions get hurt - he'd do little more than prowl around planning the punishment of those who let prejudice colour their thinking too harshly," he chuckled slightly.
"It's okay, the sting'll go away and you'll heal up quicker than anything, you'll see," Tonks assured him, making mothery noises as she continued working on making it better for her little boy.
Ted groaned. "I never said...whatever Draco told you, I didn't give him any specifics, ok? I never said that..." He shrugged. "It would have been ok, Mum. I could have just blamed it on the moon."
"You are entirely too much like your father sometimes," Tonks chided, getting another dollop worked into his skin. "Self preservation does not have to equal martyrdom, you know."
Ted coloured. Wouldn't know, he thought. He didn't mention it out loud. Urgh, three days. His joints were already a little stretched and achey. Huh. Three days..."Mum? Don't you have somewhere more important to be today?"
"I can harrass My Angel about getting older later, YOU are more important than birthday bashes. Besides, Lorne likely has it all under control," she said, ruffling his hair a little.
"Were they members of your house?" Salazar asked pointedly.
The thing about being physically confronted by other students over what he was, is that it had given Ted a bit of perspective. It hadn't made him feel particularly important, but he smiled in spite of himself when his Mum ruffled his hair. It was nice. To Salazar, he said "It doesn't matter. Anyhow, they'll probably think twice before the next time."
"And why is that, young Ted?"
Ted smiled with his eyes. "I'm not helpless. I hexed a few of them bad enough to make them think about it."
"I never meant to imply that you were helpless. You did not, however, manage to retaliate upon all of them?"
"Stop interrogating my son, Lord Sal, he knows if this happens again I WILL go to the headmistress," she looked her son in the eye on that. "Though I'm tempted to do so right now."
Ted jumped up, eyes going wide. No. She wouldn't! Oh, she would. She really would. Without thinking it over, his hands became paws and his nose became a snout and he gave a yelp before barreling past them, out of the open door, fully a wolf.
Three stunners hit him, and Tonks levitated him back into the bathroom. This time Draco locked the door shut.
The stunners smarted a bit. Ted tucked in his tail and put his head on his paws, gazing up at his captors unhappily. He wasn't about to change back with them all standing there looking, after all.
Draco and Salazar got into a quiet discussion that couldn't quite be overheard, while Tonks lay a towel over her son and scritched behind his ears. "You make a gorgeous wolf, son - though I did say I was tempted, I didn't say I was going to lodge a complaint just now."
"Whuff," said Ted, and then changed back slowly, wrapping the towel around himself. He sighed. "It wouldn't help. And I-" he hesitated. He didn't want the entire school to know he'd had his skull bounced off of the dungeon floors, either. "I don't think it's, uh, neccessary."
"You can't just let them keep coming after you, either," she chastised.
"They won't," Ted couldn't keep his cheeks from colouring again. Most of them would leave school in two months, anyhow.
"Well, this is what I'm going to do," Tonks decided. "I'm going to get that ban on you leaving the tower lifted, so you can go places if you need to, to get away from them. Also, if this happens again, you ARE going to tell me who did it," she gave him the Mom Look.
"Really?" Ted smiled all the way down to his mouth and hugged his Mum excitedly with the arm that wasn't holding the towel firmly in place. "You can get them to let me out?"
"Damn straight I can, if I have to get Merl himself to pull strings, I will." she promised.
Ted snatched his robes up from the floor and tugged them on excitedly, wriggling into his pants before he finally let the towel drop, and wrapping them around himself without bothering to button them up. "Thanks, Mum." he said
"Any time." She hugged him tightly, the potions having done their work on the sores and bruises. "I don't want to have to hear about you getting hurt, especially through Draco."
"Yeah," Ted's eyes narrowed in Draco's direction. "That does suck." He turned back to her. "Sorry Mum, I'll be more careful."
"You do that, son," she told him, reaching up to ruffle his hair. "You do that."
