I believe the actual script specifically requests that the lesbian subtext of Faith and Lilah's conversation remains very "sub".

Heh, I never thought that particular text was very sub. IMO, as innuendo goes, it's pretty unambiguous.

actually, I remember distinctly watching a commentary on one of the Faith Season 3 Episodes (somewhere around bad girls - she's swinging on a tree as they walk down main street in the night time), in which the writer (who's doing the commentary) says that Eliza Dushku "put in a whole lot of subtext, and they sorta forgot to stop her." :-P

It was definitely "Bad Girls", and the writer who said that was Douglas Petrie: "And here we’ve got the growing lesbian subtext between these two, which was always fun to play with, and Eliza was always kind of pushing the sexuality. No one remembered to stop her from doing that, which we’re all very happy about."

That's really awesome. O.o I love the commentaries.

(Angel s3 spoilers that way -->) In commentary on the Angel episode 'Waiting in the Wings' when Cordelia and Angel are possessed by the spirits of old lovers and are talking, but obviously doing something with their hands off-screen Joss goes something like, "And there's certainly nothing dirty going on off-screen, because you know between this and that floating girl on Buffy, you just might thing I'm implying something sexual, but I would never.."

You know, I just watched that episode a few weeks ago, I know the exact moment you're talking about, and it totally went over my head. *turns in her dirty fangirl card*

don't feel too bad. I've seen the series PLENTY, including that moment (Faith is, not surprisingly, one of my favorite characters), and I missed it until just now. And I LOOK for slashiness.
