Isn't it great?

Isn't it great living in the paradise that Barack Hussein Obama has created for all of us?

The economy is booming, everyone who wants a job has one, and most of those trained for good jobs have good jobs.  Employees are in such demand that all the teens and college students who wanted summer employment are working!

Manufacturing is making a comeback ( Read more... )

My old cats are all gone, buried among my flowers. I have 2 18 month old kitties bouncing around the place, Charlotte and Emily. Charlotte is a brown tabby with 4 dashing white 'mittens'. Her sister is a brown tabby with no white markings and NO TAIL. They are charmers.

There is a national income tax. Most states have an income tax, but not all. Some cities have one, too.

There is no VAT tax --yet--

Sales tax vary. They are raised by the individual states and local counties/towns. Anyone who lives in or near an area with a LOW sales tax knows that, and preferentially shops there. For example, wine is cheaper in Indiana, which is adjacent to the county in Ohio where I live.

People from Ohio buy wine there to dodge the Ohio taxes; Ohio enforcement used to lurk in the parking lots of Indiana wine stores and follow cars with Ohio license plates until they crosses the state lines, and then assessed them the Ohio tax. Well, Indiana didn't like the way their businesses were being affected, so they chased the Ohio authorities out of Indiana.

I actually try to pay cash whenever possible.

Obama is a bigger nightmare than anyone imagined. He has been a disaster for the country. His life story is largely a lie or misrepresented.

I am sorry to hear about the demise of your old cats but the young ones sound cute :).
the Sales tax(although I am unsure what the difference to a VAT would be) sopunds similar to the alcohol sales at my closest border(to danmark), in Danmark and other scandinavian countries alcohol is quite expensive so people always like to go south of the border to Flensburg( the furthest north city of Germany on the border to Danmark) to buy their booze.(one thing about booze I like(although I don't drink much(nothing atm but even normally not more than 1 or two units a week) is that you don't need to go to a licensed store , and that you don't need to 'hide' it either(aka you can have your braai in the park and have your beer with it) and when you are out you go to the next service station and get some more)
I also mostly pay per cash-- I actually don't have a credit card my self, (my husband has) and places that take credit card aren't that common either here actually)(most places accept the ec-card/giro card( a debit card system run by maestro)though
The police system by the way also looks quite complicated although I guess if you live with it it is like everything else just normal , Understandable though since the structure(and size ) of the country is quite different.
(here police is matter of the states- each state has its police department and all offices from a rural village to a bigger city are under the same rule of the states' police- , You can see where a policeman is from by the side of his sleeve which shows the respective coat of arms of the respective states.

The difference between a VAT tax and a sales tax is that the sales tax is applied only once, at the time of sale to consumers, not at every step along the way.

Alcohol is an odd item here. Where it is sold and in what form varies from state to state. Some states have liquor/wine stores that are like grocery stores with shopping carts--some require filling out little forms, then taking those to a clerk who would hand over the bottle! Some states allow the sale of beer and wine in grocery stores, some do not.

We like our police local. There is also a county sheriff's department; they have a WAY KEWEL helicopter, and state police (in Ohio, they have a symbol with a WINGED TIRE!), but each is independent and one does not serve under another. The sheriff's department is concerned with areas that do not have a formal local government and the state police are largely concerned with patrolling the highways.

I do love the winged tire emblem:
