I then made one final effort. I wrote an 8088 simulator on which to run MINIX, so when it crashed I could get a proper dump and stack trace. To my horror, MINIX would run flawlessly for days, even weeks, at a time on the simulator. It never once crashed. I was totally flummoxed. Идут годы, десятилетия, а у старичка Танненбаума до сих пор зудит от Линукса.

Дедушке походу дичайше завидно, что не он является папкой наиболее популярного клона юниха.

не заметил особого зуда. И, по-моему, всё немного наоборот - он немного гордится тем, что его код стал вдохновением для линукса. Плох тот учитель, чей ученик не может его превзойти.

Дедушка начал наезды на Линукс еще в 92 году. С тех пор разве смог смириться с тем, что Миникс никуда не уехал дальше его заднего двора в универе и стал рассказывать как он первый придумал и ваще.

не могу ничего конкретного сказать про Minix, но концепция микроядер вполне себе применяется. Без особого хайпа, правда.

Some of you may find it odd that I am defending Linus here. After all, he and I had a fairly public "debate" some years back. My primary concern here is trying to get the truth out and not blame everything on some teenage girl from the back hills of West Virginia. Also, Linus and I are not "enemies" or anything like that. I met him once and he seemed like a nice friendly, smart guy. My only regret is that he didn't develop Linux based on the microkernel technology of MINIX. With all the security problems Windows has now, it is increasingly obvious to everyone that tiny microkernels, like that of MINIX, are a better base for operating systems than huge monolithic systems. Linux has been the victim of fewer attacks than Windows because (1) it actually is more secure, but also (2) most attackers think hitting Windows offers ( ... )
