XXXHolic Episodes 1-5 Recap and Watanuki/Doumeki shipping :D

Mar 31, 2013 14:44

I'd actually forgotten that my all time favorite Clamp manga XXXHolic had gotten a live action drama. Upon first glance the casting seemed a bit left-field, but I'm happy to announce that I'm really enjoying the series so far. I'm kind of sad it's only eight episodes long T_T I'm a Watanuki/Doumeki shipper, and it doesn't disappoint in that respect so far :D I made a picspam and some gifs. I've also seen episode 6's raw, and it looks like they're setting up for Doumeki to save Watanuki for the 4th time in 6 episodes LOL.

I also made a music video (for the first time in forever) to go with their best scenes. I want to go back and tighten up some of the timings, but for a first go I enjoy watching it :) Hope you like it.

This is Watanuki our housewife-tastic, angry young ghost-seeing grump. He mistakenly thinks he's got a shot with the rather adorable, but tragedy-prone Himawari-chan (pig-tailed schoolgirl friend), when all about him ship him with his stoic, badass frenemy Doumeki-kun;

He works for Yuko and her adorable/crazy assistants Maru and Moro in a mysterious shop which grants wishes (at a price);

Yuko is a dimensional witch with the most glorious fashion sense and a rain-spirit lolita friend. Let's appreciate her gorgeous clothes for a minute;

Yuko's rain-spirit friend is a cute lolita;

This is Doumeki. He has angst and looks hot when he does Kyuudo;

The first time we see Doumeki he's cock-blocking Watanuki LIKE A BOSS;

Oh hay there Ryo Kimura (playing an absolute twunt);

Just like in the manga, Doumeki likes to mess up Watanuki's lunch dates with Himawari-chan and nick bits from Watanuki's delicious looking bentos;

He also stands up for Himawari-chan (who is his childhood friend) when slimeball Kimura hits on her. Punches him LIKE A BOSS;

Another moment to appreciate the frankly gorgeous/well filmed settings they chose considering this isn't a big budget drama. I'm honestly impressed;

I love how they keep giving Doumeki and Watanuki these lovely quiet moments out of nowhere;

The opening credits ship it;

I adore Yuko. She's just a perfect mixture of mysterious and teasing. It's great to see her trolling Watanuki;

Is this a date? XD (Okay, so it's them and Himawari/Yuko, but still....) Plus bickering FTW;

Yuko ships it;

Cue the first instance of Doumeki saving Watanuki's life. This time it's from the ghost which nearly killed Watanuki and contributed to Watanuki's mother's death;

Yuko explains why they're so well suited to each other;

There's just something really sweet about this rueful moment for Doumeki. Whilst Watanuki is being praised by Himawari-chan he just sits back like this patiently after Watanuki (who has adorable hair omg) bitches at him;

I also liked how much more Doumeki-centric Watanuki's life seemed to become once Doumeki started protecting him;

During the angel-san episode Doumeki gets the crap kicked out of him by ghosts whilst trying to save Watanuki from being crushed by a piano;

Of course he ends up choosing to acknowledge his powers and save Watanuki (again);

Then afterwards he pretends not to care *coughliarcough*;

He totally trolls Watanuki whilst him and Himawari-chan are making Doumeki a cake;

When he goes with Watanuki to check out the hydrangea this gem happens. Why are you guys so useless at communicating?;

Doumeki can't cook apparently. Also Watanuki you are an idiot;

ARGH. He's ridiculous and I love seeing him smile for once in this episode;

It's a perfect set up to his total anxiety when he thinks Watanuki has vanished;

More people need to get into Clamp's shounen ai pairings. Some of them are just legendary, and tbh I find the whole carrot/stick hint of something very satisfying in between reading canonically BL stories.
